LOST DOG TIPS Please review the tips from pet recovery experts and watch video to help! So sorry your dog is lost! Hope you find your dog!! 🐾❤️ Please read and watch video! These tips come from trained missing animal recovery team. If not fixed, they will travel further, best to have them fixed. It is much better for them. **If Chipped, be sure it is up to date! And it’s releasable! ** Contact chip company to make them aware!! There is a VOLUNTEER group and a TRACKER (get within 2 weeks) at the bottom of these tips that can help if needed! PLEASE review this information as it has proven to help find your dog! If your dog got out of an electric fence area, be sure to turn fence off or they can’t get track in! Keys to finding your dog: SEARCHING, LURING WITH SCENT, FEEDING STATION, REPORTING TO SHELTER, POSTING TO SITES, POSTERS/FLYERS, CHECKING SHELTER IN PERSON EVERYDAY! *SHELTERS ONLY HOLD ANIMALS FOR 3 DAYS BEFORE ADOPTING OUT!* DO NOT CHASE! USE CALMING SIGNALS BELOW TO GAIN TRUST with food to lure them. Once lost they will go into survival mode and may not recognize you! **SENIOR DOGS TEND TO TRAVEL DOWNHILL TOWARDS WATER! LOOK AT MAP FOR WATER SOURCES AND GO SEARCH ASAP! ** Please check out locations of water sources, railroad tracks, and power lines as dogs often follow these. Dogs typically run 2-3 miles when lost. If not lured back they will keep running about a mile a day! Huskies, Hounds and Shepards run fast and can travel far! If not fixed, may travel further looking for mate. Please get them fixed when found! You must LURE THEM BACK with scent and food! Get your scented items outside ASAP! Get a beach chair and sit low and GRILL SOME MEAT, BACON WORKS BEST! Spread some meat grease around or liquid smoke around the area. They can smell the grill a mile away! Get some LIQUID SMOKE from grocery store and put in into a spray bottle with water and spray trails in the trees/ on the ground towards your feeding station/camera/ home! Spray some high in trees so wind will carry scent. A feeding station helps keep them in the area, instead of going further away. GET YOUR SCENT OUT THERE: WALK AROUND and SIT DOWN close to point of exit extending out like spokes on a wheel into nearby woods or where the dog may went. NO GRILL? Use a crockpot.. plug in outside.. put in some old meat or chicken add liquid smoke turn on leave lid cracked to let scent escape... will go for hours. Add water to fill the crockpot with the meat and liquid smoke OR Fill an aluminum 13 x 9 pan on cement with a few briquets to start fire, bend a coat hanger into a zigzag pattern to form a grate over coals... Can also get a bucket of some HOT FRIED CHICKEN ! KFC scent known to travel 3 miles! LEAVE gates, porches, garage doors open so they are able to get back in! Does your dog have a dog friend at home? Walk it around neighborhood with you to see if it can help find it or bring it out! The scent of the other dog could help!! In the Woods? START THE GRILL! DO NOT RUSH IN TO WOODS CALLING THEIR NAME (this could scare them to run further away) , walk in quietly about 10-20’ and take some torn strips of scented clothing, and some liquid smoke, wet dog food with gravy, tuna juice or any stinky food (smellier the better) and make a scent trail with clothes and food leading back toward your house to feeding station, to help keep them in area and GRILL at last spot seen or point of exit. ***PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO ASAP TO GET ON THE FAST TRACK TO BECOMING A KNOWLEDGEABLE SEARCHER: How to Find a Lost Dog: https://youtu.be/8cKxfWUXBnY (1) NOTIFY Animal Control, file a report and Visit in person every 2 days (2) PLACE ADS: http://www.lostmydoggie.com great place to start, a free site that will send a fax blast to the closest vets, shelters in your area, Craigslist, Facebook for your county and state sites such as: https://www.facebook.com/LostFoundDogs.NC/ and https://www.facebook.com/groups/769692416445474/, pawboost.com, petfbi.org, https://24petconnect.com , https://www.helpinglostpets.com/ https://lost.petcolove.org/ local newspaper Wake County post where too: https://m.facebook.com/groups/3638406106481481/?ref=share (3)SET UP CAMERAS/ FEEDING STATION- at point of last seen, get a motion detector camera and place close by with some scented clothing of yours and some smelly food. Watch to see if you spot on camera. Once spotted, set a humane trap covered in your scented items. Will help to keep in area! (4) FIRE UP GRILL cooking some food to help lure back home and keeping in area instead of moving further (bacon works great) LURE BACK WITH FOOD AND SCENTED ITEMS! (7) NOTIFY NEIGHBORS by making flyers (4 to a page) and handing out to all neighbors, delivery people in your area (mail carrier, fed ex, etc) and one in a sandwich ziploc bag with a few pebbles in it for weight and toss by mailbox Go to local and surrounding post offices and see if you can put Flyers up so all carriers in area are aware! (8) FLYERS AND POSTERS (put in yard, put on poles, businesses, tag your car etc.) 2 mile radius, use sheet protectors to keep dry, or plastic wrapped and sealed with blow dryer, use this Flyer template here: https://search.petfbi.org/flyer.html (9) Obtain a MAP of area and find WATER sources (they will look for water and stay close by water sources), also they often times follow power lines *GATHER A PET SCENT ITEM TO STORE (in case you decide on a track later if spotted): Put on gloves, gather scented item from your pet, if it’s a big bed or something big, wipe down with some cotton gauze and place the toy and/or gauze into plastic bag and place in freezer.
