I’m so sorry your adorable black cats got outside, but please try not to despair -- your kitties are likely hiding close to his escape route, too frightened to come when called or emerge in the daylight. Can they return via the window, or would they have landed close to a door? I ask because most indoor cats will attempt to return on their own, usually within the first few nights if the conditions are just right, so if you know what to expect and how to react, you could have them back inside by morning. I've recovered many escaped cats and have a full set of instructions, but I’ll withhold them for now, hopeful you won’t need them. This is what I suggest you do and when: If you don't see this comment until morning, DURING THE DAYTIME, alert nearby neighbors in case your cats are hiding just beyond your property (under a vehicle, in a garage, shed, or carport, etc.), then, if there’s time before dark and you can search SILENTLY without dislodging them from their hiding spots, focus your efforts close to home and tiptoe around using a flashlight, but be quiet and discreet so as not to frighten them (shhh! DO NOT CALL or shake treats), check every crack and crevice, look in, under and around sheds, vehicles, furniture, under foundations and porches, into trees etc. but suspend searching when it gets dark to give him the chance to return voluntarily. IMMEDIATELY (if you see this comment overnight) or AT DUSK crack open the window if it's easily accessible, making sure it's dark and quiet in the room (they won't approach if otherwise) then place food well inside the room or at their regular spot (wait until they settle on the food before attempting to close the window behind them -- if one comes and not the other, isolate the returned cat and start again). If the window is not easily accessible from the ground, lay a familiar blanket or worn teeshirt flat on the nearest doorstep to where they landed (DO NOT USE a litter box, bedding, trap or anything obvious -- it's there for scent only) to give your cats the confidence to come out of hiding, and place tempting food in front of the door (making sure you can still open it when they return). Call them softly to provide a familiar sound and direction, then watch and listen closely from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUT AFTER DARK!) and if you see either cat approach and settle on the food be very careful not to startle them as you slowly and quietly provide a clear path back inside. If you can't wait up set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time to return. Please let me know what happens tonight and if they're not back by morning, I'll provide more detailed instructions. Also, although some suggest putting out kitty's litter box, EXPERTS WARN AGAINST IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Toothless made it home last night. However his brother thats 3x's bigger did not. I walked around outside for a while around 4:30-5am to no avail. Im praying he's alright. He's skiddish but friendly.

Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.

Sorry to hear your cat is missing. Your cat is nearby probably on your property scared and hiding. Put out worn clothing. Clothing has to be worn so that kitty can pick up on the scent. Also put out kitty’s cat bed or a blanket anything with the cat’s scent outside. Leave a window and a door slightly open so that kitty can find its way back inside the house. Be sure to secure other pets first. Go out at Dawn and Dusk approximately 2 am to 5 am especially with a flashlight. The light from the flashlight will reflect in the cat’s eyes. Check underneath bushes, trees, cars, decks, patio furniture and tarps. Anything your cat will use as shelter and a place to hide. Check sheds, garages etc. Kitty’s venture off not to far away from home. Search your property extensively. Most cats are found hiding on owners property. Be sure to search properties at a radius of 10 homes to the right, 10 to the left, 10 behind and 10 in front. Go door to door and let your neighbours know your cat is missing. Ask for their permission to search their properties. Look at every nook and cranny. Neighbours will not thoroughly search their properties or know where to look. It is best if you search the properties yourself. Shake a bag of your cat’s favourite treats or food calling kitty’s name calmly. Important thing is to remain calm. If you find your cat, make no sudden movements. Your cat is scared and in survival mode. Approach your cat slowly and calmly. Extend your hand out so that your cat can smell your hand. You need to gain your cats trust again. Give your cat treats. When you think you can grab your cat confidently do so and hang on tightly to it. Remember your cat is scared and in survival mode and will be scared of you as well. Remain calm. Be sure to create flyers with as much information possible and hand out to your neighbours as well as post flyers in the neighbourhood and the surrounding areas. Remember 10 to the left 10 to the right, 10 to the front and 10 to the back. If you can offer a reward it will encourage others to look for your kitty. Do don’t leave the litter box outside it will attract stray cats, raccoons etc. It will scare your cat away. If your cat is microchipped call the company and report the cat missing. Make sure your contact information is up to date. Report your cat missing to your local SPCA or Human Society. Bring flyers as well to post. Go in person to your local SPCA /Humane Society every couple of days and check out what cats that were recently brought in. Contact rescue groups or agencies and report your cat is missing. Bring them flyers. Go in person and check what cats have been brought it. Report your cat missing on local Facebook animals group and neighborhood watch Facebook pages. Check Kijiji as well. Follow these tips. Don’t waste any time waiting for your cat to come home. Start your search immediately. Just keep going out looking for your cat everyday . Recheck your property, your neighbours and surrounding areas as mentioned as many times as necessary. Check in with the SPCA/Humane Society and rescue groups every couple of days. Don’t give up. It can take days, weeks or months to find your cat. Good luck finding for your cat.
