Cats don’t venture far from their homes when first lost. One suggestion is to go outside between 4:00 and 5:00 am, AND/OR right before dawn, and walk up and down the blocks. You may need to search as far as 10 to 20 blocks away from your home BUT they are probably close to your house/building and are hiding due to fear. Bring some tuna fish, anchovies or their favorite treats. Call your cat's name and make a 'pssst, pssst, pssst’ sound. Try talking as you would when they were in the house or with you. Try using familiar dialogue…ex: Do you want treats, are you hungry? Etc… This may help them trust the identity of your voice. Listen for a meow or any response. Use a flashlight as it will reflect off of their eyes. I understand this may seem like a lot to do, but this is the time when stray cats are out looking for food, and some people have had success finding their lost cats using this method.

First put out a big bowl of water. Then, did you try the kitty litter trick? Take some litter from their box and sprinkle outside leading to your door then call them constantly especially at dawn and dusk and when it's quiet. Kitty will follow its scent and your voice home. It's no doubt scared and hiding. You can also try a stinky can of sardines! Or if kitty is a cuddler, try putting an article of your clothing by your door. Also check area garages, under car hoods, shelters, Nextdoor and Pawboost for found kitties in and near your zip. Don’t give up. And post flyers around your neighborhood. Good luck! And please keep your kitty inside if you let it out!! Between coyotes, diseases, bad actors and cars, there are so many ways harm can come to them. Finally, if your kitty isn’t fixed, please spay/neuter!
