Message from Owner

Missing our Dixie Doodle. We have a blue collar and an air tag on her, but it is no longer responding. The kids as well as her pet parents miss her fiercely! Please share! We want her where she belongs! Thank you all!

My indoor only male black cat got out once. We put out all the scents. Old blankets, our unwashed clothes, his scratch post, his empty dirty litter box, vacuum dust etc. My nextdoor neighbor would see him trying to return during the day while we were at work. Then get scared and run off into nearby woods. I started setting my alarm for 3am while it was quiet and go out calling him. Finally after 5 days I heard him crying in very thick bushes Nextdoor to our house. I saw his eyes with my flashlight. I had to literally crawl to get him. He was like afraid to move. I finally got him . They usually don’t travel far. They will hunker down close by.

Search at night with a flashlight (eyes will glow) up in trees and inside and under things on your property and up to three or four houses away. Cats normally stay pretty close to home. You can put something with the smell of the cat, or the scent of home, out on the porch. Put up missing cat posters, check with your neighbors, post on all local social media groups, and check with animal control every week. Leave your garage door up enough to allow the cat entry. You can also try searching early morning, before dawn, calling his/her name and carrying and open can of tuna or cat food. Hunger sometimes lures them out of hiding. Don't forget to check places like crawl spaces, garages, and sheds.

I am so sorry about your Kitty being lost. Put the Owner's worn clothes outside all around the house or the area where the Kitty was lost Kitties don't go far, but they do hide a lot. When it is quiet and darker, go out and shake her food bowl and treat bag and hopefully she will hear it and come out. Talk quietly to her like you would if she was inside - yelling can scare them, though this is what we want to do because we want them HOME!! Knock on doors. Someone may have taken your Kitty in so she/he doesn't get hurt. Also ck with your Neighbors and ck their storage areas, sheds, etc. I know of a Kitty who was found in a storage room that had only been open for 5 mins. Put out flyers everywhere - stores, intersections, etc., and put the info on your car windows so that it gets the info out to more people. Use multiple actions to find your Pet...using only one may limit your success in getting your Kitty Home.
