Message from Owner

My mother’s cat who I was responsible for cat sitting while she is on vacay was forced out of the hse yesterday (Sunday April 19th) afternoon by some of my family members and I’ve been trying to look for her since. We’re located on 119th street between Park and Madison avenue though it’s possible she may be in Marcus Garvey Park (not sure if she was forced out the hse or dropped off / abandoned). She knows her name but mostly responds to my mother. She is very sweet, food motivated, and a relatively more confident cat except when she is outside, she only knows our well. I’m very worried about her because of the circumstances she went through to no longer be in our and if you receive any information, it would be really appreciated.

Indoor cats usually stay in a 3 to 5 house radius of home * Will often hide all day and only come out late at night * Most will come home between 2 and 4 am * Leave the door or window they escaped from open if possible. If not, leave another door open if you can. * If you can't leave a door open, get up throughout the night and check outside. * Around 10 pm set out smelly food like rotisserie chicken * At night, walk the area and call softly. Listen carefully. Use a flashlight to catch eyeshine. * You can put the cat's blanket out or your worn clothing, or just make some lines or little piles of your cat’s dirty litter to help guide them back home. Ask your neighbors with garages/sheds or outdoor bat and courtyard access to check as cats can be accidentally locked in and neighbors may go away on vacation without realizing a cat is in their bat or garage/shed. Also very important to look at the trees close by cats often get stuck high up in trees after being startled or chased by predators. Not everyone is on facebook so for the best results put between 50-100 flyers in your area all around a 3-4 block radius. Also post on the other social media platforms-Instagram download the ring/neighbors app if you don’t already have it and post there- it’s totally free to use and you don’t need a ring. It’s targets the area you provide same thing with Nextdoor. Com offer a reward as incentive. bump up daily. 🙏

First put out a big bowl of water. Then, did you try the kitty litter trick? Take some litter from their box and sprinkle outside leading to your door then call them constantly especially at dawn and dusk and when it's quiet. Kitty will follow its scent and your voice home. It's no doubt scared and hiding. You can also try a stinky can of sardines! Or if kitty is a cuddler, try putting an article of your clothing by your door. Also check area garages, under car hoods, shelters, Nextdoor and Pawboost for found kitties in and near your zip. Don’t give up. And post flyers around your neighborhood. Good luck! And please keep your kitty inside if you let it out!! Between coyotes, diseases, bad actors and cars, there are so many ways harm can come to them. Finally, if your kitty isn’t fixed, please spay/neuter!

Go out at night when it’s quiet and call for him or her. Sit there, keep calling for him or her, and wait. It may take a couple of hours. Look under bushes with a flashlight. Look up in trees, maybe he got up there and too scared to come down. Knock on car’s hoods. They like to keep warm in car wheels or inside engines. Put something that smells like you out with a can of tuna. Maybe set up a humane trap. Some say leave a door open, so he could come in. Put up fliers and ask your neighbors to make sure he’s not locked up in their garages, sheds, bats, attics. Call local vets and actually go to shelters. Sometimes, animals are brought into shelters before the front office knows about them. Saying St. Anthony’s prayer to find pets and things can’t hurt. Good luck. 🙏🙏

Cats tend to hide close by so keep checking around where you live. Check animal care centers on 110th between 1st and 2nd in Harlem. They very well may have brought her there as a “stray” or surrender. Check all their locations and make a lost pets report with them, check daily. You can check online if you can’t get there. Harlem location is the main one. Ask neighbors to check property he may have gone in somewhere and got locked in accidentally. Check at dawn and dusk, they tend to hide and come out at those times. Ask around for anyone who feeds strays he may show up looking for food because she will get hungry. Hang flyers. Post on pawboost.com and Check found section of pawboost.com Search social media for local rescues. Not all have facilities and are online Call local vets, shelters, precincts., In case someone finds him and brings him in. Hang flyers. Check Craigslist and other sites that may sell pets Good luck.
