Gayle Hopkins We still have the little dog. He was taken to the emergency clinic where they scanned him for a Chip, he has one, but it is not registered. We will be calling the vet clinic that issued the Chip this morning with hopes of finding his owner.

Thank you SO VERY MUCH for keeping this pet safe and ensuring that anyone who claims to be the owner IS in fact the rightful owner. Be careful…. The owner will be able to tell YOU the pet’s name, gender, color of collar and any identifying marks / characteristics. You shouldn’t post online (Facebook) any of the above info about the pet you found. And don’t share it with the possible owner. Let the owner of a missing pet give you the info about their pet. Request photos of their missing pet and pet’s name. See if the pet responds to the pet name the person gives you. See if the pet you found matches any description / characteristics they provide. The owner will also have vet records to share. Pet can be scanned for free at your veterinary office, animal shelter, humane society, some police stations & fire stations, petco and petsmart. Somee groomers can scan for microchips too. Also please contact the local animal shelter and report this pet as found. Pet’s family should call there or go there looking for their fur baby. You should be able to foster the pet at your home, so that the pet doesn’t have to stay at the shelter. Older pets, and small pets, especially shouldn’t be at shelters. They do not do well at all in a shelter environment. Please, please consider being his foster family. However, the shelter should be aware that you found him/her. I also recommend putting a simple Found Dog or Cat sign in your yard and at your mailbox in case pet’s owners drive around looking for him or her. Also lets your mailman, neighbors and other delivery people know about the found pet. They may hear of a missing pet and know you found one. If the pet you found is a dog, it can be a good idea to walk the dog on leash around the neighbor to see if the dog leads you to their home and to see if anyone recognizes the pooch. Does not apply with found cats.
