Description

He's a cockatiel with a green band. When he was flying around, he looked yellow but up close, he's a mixture of greys and whites (and yellows?) with orange cheeks. He can be hand fed but is afraid of hands otherwise. He hasn't eaten since he flew away so luring him with bird millet or cockatiel food is a good idea.

Message from Owner

We've been worried sick since he flew away yesterday. He keeps perching on the really tall trees and he's having lots of difficulty coming down. It would mean the world to us if any of you somehow find him and bring him to safety.

Paula Thompson He's still out there but I'm pretty sure he's been in the neighborhood the entire time. I've been putting my other bird, Paco, on the porch, whenever I can. Hopefully it's been helping Cody find his way back home.

Terri Mullen Thank you so much for the advice. We had a cage outside, on the porch, since last evening. And everytime my family and I go on a search, we bring a carrier cage with his cage-mate with food, water, and millet inside, extra millet in millet bags, and water bottles. And we've been going on searches near sunrise and sunset since this morning. I made this "Lost Cockatiel" post just in case he somehow finds himself at or near someone else's home. But thank you again for your advice. I really appreciate it. Oh! And I'll file a report to the local county shelter now.

Posted on Lost and Found birds of the US. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18XMPRx7TL/?mibextid=wwXIfr We are so sorry to hear your bird is missing. Here are some ideas to assist in your search. *Create a post on Pawboost, NextDoor & Ring, if you haven’t already. *During the daytime: use a wireless Bluetooth speaker to broadcast flock calls or your voice, shake treat bags or anything that might attract attention to food, put the cage out where it can be seen. *During the evening when searching is over, design & print off flyers with photo & contact information. These can be encased in a ziplock to keep weatherproof & posted in areas where allowed like parks, poles & any nearby gathering areas. Also drop off some at vet clinics, pet supply stores, anything within a 5 mile radius. Contact local shelters/rescues & even the police dept - they do pick up found/stray pets all the time. Make sure the world knows - neighbors esp ones that have bird feeders/baths/pools. Hand them out while searching the area. Join every local social media group there is. Run an ad in your local newspaper - some run one for free in lost & found (or cheap). Also check with local bird watcher groups - they’re always out & about. Flyers cannot be placed in mailboxes. *PLEASE CHECK WITH LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS & FILE A MISSING PET REPORT*
