Travel itineraries Travel itineraries That is a lot of accusations to share without providing this person any benefit of the doubt nor resources. This person has now been accused of being an animal abuser, stealing a dog that is not hers, and has been accused in other comments of literally injecting this dog with heroin because of the assumption that all homeless people must be doing drugs. Let alone the photo shared of her. I would be mortified to have a picture of myself shared around the internet, strangers commenting on my disability and speculating my gender. I am sure she did not return to this space today because people are harassing her and seeking her out now due to a viral post. I would be terrified to leave my house if people constantly were seeking me out and offering cash to buy my companion. Terrified. In cases like this, we have to meet people with nonjudgement, without overreacting and without spreading rumors.

Savannah Hinde-Seeley the dog was almost hit by a car. She was running on the road on Michigan avenue. This lady was just standing there. Another person ran to the road and caught the dog and this lady was shaking the dog and yelling at her after that. There are homeless people taking good care of their dogs, I’ve seen plenty before. But this is not the case.

Savannah Hinde-Seeley she is not caring for the dog. The dog does not have water. She was shaking her, yelling at her, the dog was almost hit by cars. I’ve seen homeless people caring about their dogs before. This is not the case here. My neighbor also observed her pulling the dog hard by the neck on another occasion.

“Homeless persons with dogs are often the subject of stigma, with the public criticising them for not having a proper lifestyle to care for a pet. There is solid documentation of how dogs enhance a homeless person’s life, but there are few publications that address the welfare of the dog. This descriptive study assesses the physical and behavioural health of dogs belonging to homeless persons through a One Welfare lens by observing animal/human well-being, environment, and “a life worth living”. A survey was carried out along with a visual assessment of the condition of the dog for 100 human-dog dyads in the Western United States. Results showed that dogs of homeless persons were well cared for and physically healthy (which was consistent with other studies), and had few behavioural problems, but did display evidence of separation distress while the owner was away.” https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10951669/

Leo Klinkhamer This woman may not need “rescued.” Has anyone asked her what she needs, including if she would like to just be left alone?

This dog looks groomed, a water bowl is in the picture, and seems to be well-loved by this person. Just because a person is unhoused does not mean that they are not fit to be a pet owner. Living on the streets or being housing unstable is a very lonely, isolating experience. It is very likely this dog is a close companion to her and it would be detrimental to the person and animal if strangers continue to separate this family. As a veterinary social worker, please stop harassing this person.
