SUE, It is critical that you provide a phone number, as e-mails are unreliable. People forget to check their SPAM / JUNK e-mail folder. This deters scammers. So far, I've never had a customer claim that scammers contacted them, providing a TEXT ONLY phone number w/proof of possession & details that only the owner & Finder would know. Never send $$$ w/o these requirements being met, but do be prepared to pay a reward or for reclaiming. Meet in public (vet's office, police station, etc.) & don't go alone or after dark.

It might help people to help you, to show a photo of his face & markings. Be sure to check shelters IN PERSON, at least every other day, as phone calls to facilities are not reliable. Keep proof of ownership & reclaim / reward $$$ w/you at all times. I've often had good luck w/placing flyers at intersection near where LOST. Photo should be w/up close of the pet's face & large TEXT ONLY phone number w/proof of possession. Keep details that only you & the Finder would know off flyers & posts. Sometimes, pets are 'pulled' from shelters by Rescues, after the stray-hold is up. Their goal is to save the life of the pet, get them any neuter / spay / medical care that is needed, & then usually to place the pet up for adoption. You can keep an eye on PET FINDERS . COM for local & surrounding Rescues that might have your pet up for adoption. You can check 100 miles away & farther. It is not unusual for pets to be moved from one Shelter / Rescue to another - even out of town or out of state. Again, phone calls & even paper work & photo galleries are not always reliable & not always correct / up-to-date in any given facility. You must go IN PERSON to verify.
