Check for a microchip. Contact shelters to see if reported missing. Require proof of ownership if someone comes forward.

Did you contact police since owners usually call them. I pray you can hold on to dog until owners are found. This dog wouldn't do well caged up, plus if dog goes to animal control then to a shelter owners have to pay some money to get dog back. Police or animal shelter or vet can check for a chip. Just please hold on to dog and take turns with friends until owner is found. Im sure their worried.
