If it's friendly, it is most likely lost or abandoned. Please take to a vet to get it checked for a microchip. My standard, unedited advice: Thanks for taking care of kitty. Please beware of scammers on here. They often work in pairs or small groups...i.e. "That's my kitty!" and then other folks chime in, vouching for that person. Give away no details other than what you've already provided here. If someone does say it's theirs, make them show you proof that the cat is theirs... Vet records, adoption papers and photos of them with the cat. If the cat has any distinguishing marks, ask them to tell you what they are. Finally... meet with them to see this information at your local police station and do NOT bring the cat with you. You can always meet them again with the cat. My standard advice: Please check for a microchip. If there isn't one, post to and search www.lostmykitty.com, www.pawboost.com, www.petfinder.com, www.petfbi.com, Craigslist and the NextDoor, Neighbors and Ring apps. When posting to Craigslist, search the "For Sale" sections as people seemingly post everywhere on that site. Contact every vet possible and share the flyer/pic. Also consider contacting groomers, including Petco/Petsmart.... If there is a chip and it seems to be a dead end or not registered, contact MicroChip Hunters. They research and find owners all the time. It's what they do and they are great at it.

Thanks for posting about this lost cat. If possible please take to any vet or police station to scan for a microchip. And in case their family is not on social media, please post signs in the area. Hopefully they will be reunited with their family soon.
