Message from Owner

I’ve been looking constantly for my little Companion, but I can’t seem to find him anywhere. He got out the day I moved in, so he doesn’t really know where is, and this place doesn’t feel like without him. Please, if you see him, please contact me at. Thank you very much!

Sad to see so many kitties go missing 30+ just this weekend. Poor baby, he must be so scared and hungry out on his own. 🐈‍⬛ When a cat goes missing, they can’t easily find their way home using only their scent. You must be proactive and look for them. Look under your neighbor’s cars, bushes & hedges, look for glowing eyes w/flashlight, call him early evening when it’s quiet and they come out from hiding to eat. Posting is important, but please Search for him, too. They don’t go far 3-4 houses away, they stay in one place until they are scared off by dogs, coyotes, or loud equipment. The challenge is finding him before he runs further way. Please hang flyers near the area where he went missing, it’ll get the immediate attention from pedestrians and drivers. Let your neighbors know you’re looking for him. You’re the one that can bring him home safely, he will recognize your voice, footsteps and scent. Post on ND, check SDHS Lost & Found daily. If you’re able to find him, PLEASE please don’t let him go outside unattended. Train your cat walk on a leash & keep him safe🙏🏼 This is Coyote Country! PLEASE GO OUT SEARCHING FOR HIM 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Most indoor cats will stay very close to home, but they will go into hiding because they go into survival mode, especially during the day. If it’s at all possible for you to put some recently worn clothing, bedding, a cat tree, if your cat has one near a open door window or garage where the cat will have access to return home, they usually will do it between midnight and 3 AM in the morning. Do not put a litter box out because that will attract other predators such as coyotes, raccoons, skunks, etc. At night time, you can also take a flashlight looking under cars in trees and bushes Taking with you a bag of treats if your cat is treat motivated, calling its name softly staying low to the ground, shaking the bag and using the flashlight to possibly light up your cats eyes. Sometimes they can stay in hiding for days so don’t give up. Hope these tips help and that you’re beautiful. Cat returns home safely and soon🙏🐈‍⬛❤️

The best time to go looking is super late or super early. Cats don't go far but they hide really well when scared. In the past I have found 2 lost cats both around 5 am ish. One was stuck in my neighbors shed for 2 days- I walked past it repeatedly but I only could hear her meow through it when there was no noise around. The lost cat was 3 houses down from his own home for almost a week- under a house. I saw him about 5:30 ish as it was just getting light out and he was sitting out front looking nervous. He ran back under the house when he saw me coming around the corner. I barley saw him. Try getting up right before dawn and walk slowly and call him quietly - they have great hearing so no need to get the cops called on yourself. Keep your ears and eyes open, especially on the ground area where there are little places to hide.
