I believe this dog was posted on here after the 4th of July. Thanks for helping this pup. This is general information I share with pet Finders. Pets are considered personal property in California, so by law, “reasonable efforts” MUST be made to locate a Found pet’s owner and return the pet. Here are some suggestions that should ensure that you make a good faith effort to reunite this pup with his family. If you do these you should be able to find this pup’s owner. ⚠️IMPORTANT: On Day One, you are REQUIRED to file a Found Pet Report with the nearest shelter⚠️ Next, please check PawBoost posts on Facebook, ie San Diego, CA - Lost Dogs, Cats & Pets - PawBoost, and look to see if the dog is posted and you may find the owner this way. You can also just check on the PawBoost website, because you can get a wider range of lost pets, and see if the dog is posted as LOST. You can do searches by location and ai think breed, color,, etc. If the pup isn’t posted as Lost then please make a PawBoost Found post to INCLUDE your phone number where it asks for it. This allows for the reunification to be much easier for you and the owner. But, do NOT post your # in the body of your post. Please keep checking the post at least daily, and all new LOST posts, until the owner is found. Also: ❌ Have the pup SCANNED For A MICROCHIP at a vet or a shelter/animal service, ie PetsMart. If a microchip is found, it is your obligation to deliver the pup to your local animal control agency (shelter) to have the shelter contact the owner and return the pet. ❌On day one, you are required to FILE a FOUND PET REPORT (with photo & gender) with the closest shelter. Some shelter websites allow to file the report on their webpage. Also, browse through their Lost pet logs. The pet logs are Lost & Found pet reports from pet owner/ finders who either call in or file online reports to the shelter. Some of these are filed on PawBoost, 24PetConnect, etc. and the link is on the shelter website. ❌POST on various other local Lost/Found pet forums on Facebook; also Next Door, Craigslist, 24PetConnect, etc. ❌You can Foster the pup for the mandatory hold time, and longer, I believe. If you are fostering, make a “Found Pet” poster (free in PawBoost) and make copies and post them around the neighborhood, where the dog was found, local stores, schools, vets, etc. 80% of lost pets are found within ONE mile of home, so check your local area and speak with neighbors. Remember, some older adults do not use social media. This pup may live close to where the pup was found. FYI, pets can ONLY be adopted through your local shelter or a bonafide dog rescue. ❌ Verify ownership through: vet records, photos & social media, etc.🐾 Source: https://www.ccspca.com/blog-spca/found-a-stray-the-facts-of-pet-ownership/
