Leave an open access like an attached garage cracked about 8 inches 24/7. If the cat is left alone they will attempt to get back in when it’s dark, especially early am.

Cats usually don't roam too far from home so shake a container of the cat's kibble outside and call the cat's name repeatedly. Set out the cat's litter box and some bedding with the cat's scent on it. File a lost cat report with Virginia Beach Animal Control and Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center on Birdneck Road. Check with Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center on Birdneck Road in person every day. Check the website and Facebook posts for Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center for strays brought in every day

Please file a missing cat report with Virginia Beach animal control. If the cat is chipped to make sure the registry has your current contact information. Visit the shelter several times a week to see if the cat has been brought in. Cats can return home after months, sometimes a neighbor thinks they’re a stray and they take them in, not realizing the cat is owned. Tonight after 10 PM, go out a new yard with a bag of kitty treats and a flashlight. Walk around your yard calling your cats’s name and shaking the kitty treats bag, use the flashlight to see if your cat is hiding in your bushes. Indoor cats normally don’t strain more than 5 to 7 homes from their own. Print flyers with your cats picture and your contact information and take them around to your neighbors, asking them to call you if they see your cat. Also ask them if they’ve been in the shed, South Africa outbuilding a garage since your cat went missing, cats go in those places to hide and feel safe. If a cat goes in one of those structures and the door is closed, they cannot get out. You cannot hear cat crying to get out unless you’re standing right next to the structure. Look under decks, porches, and any structure with an open crawlspace. Do the same process each night with the kitty treats and walking around your yard calling the cats‘s name.
