Most cats are scared when they get out. They find first safe spot and this is where they stay, this is usually within a half block from your home in any direction. Best time to look is after midnite and up to 3 am when the scarey daytime noises stop. Sit outside your house, near the place kitty escaped from. Stay put for at least an hour, talking in a normal tone so kitty can hear you. Have familiar smells with you, like litter box or favorite food or treats. If weather is mild, consider sleeping on your porch. Do this every night, same time...between midnight and 3 am. You could also try walking around the neighborhood. Take a flashlight and shine it to watch for the glow of cat eyes. Take a can of food or treats to shake. .something your cat loves. Softly call kitty name. You may have to go several nights in row, at same time. Kitty will be cautious, must know it is you before she shows herself. Listen closely for soft meows...she wants to be found. Don't give up, cats are resilient and smart. I would be so bold as to say 95% of lost cats are within a hundred feet of house but are not found because owner gives up. Cats can be missing for weeks and months, being steps from your house. Many good stories of cats coming home, even after much time passes. Hang flyers in neighborhood. ..people need to know she is missing, so they don't assume she is a stray if they see her. I found my cat after putting flyers on house for blocks in my neighborhood. People have seen her, someone may be feeding her...you have to get word out IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD! Have neighbors check garages and sheds. She could be trapped in one of those locations. Contact shelters and stay in touch with them. Most importantly, have faith and be consistently persistent in active regular searches AT NIGHT. good luck with getting her back. It will happen. Please do these things asap, especially the dirty clothes and traps. Cats tend to stay close to home. Keep putting food out for him/her. Also place several pieces of recently worn, unwashed clothing outside of your house ASAP. If possible, try to borrow a humane trap and set it by the door through which the cat escaped. This is probably the best way to catch him/her because he/she may be returning to the house but you just aren't seeing them. Once you put a trap out, remove any other food except for the food in the trap. Call his/her name at night when it's quiet, and listen for his/her meow. Post fliers in your neighborhood, at pet stores and vet offices, etc. Be patient and continue to do this. Cats can be gone for days, weeks, or longer, and then just show up one day. Talk to your neighbors so they know to look for him/her and will know he/she is your missing pet and not a stray cat. If you engage people personally, they will be more likely to contact you if they see him/her. Also if you can safely leave the door open through which she escaped, do so and put a pile of dirty clothes and some stinky food like tuna, outside the door he or she got out from! Also check every nook and cranny in your home. Sometimes they are hiding in the smallest and unusual places! It's Not Unusual for there to be no sightings. Cats usually return between sunset and sunrise when there's no one around and it's quiet. It's really important that you have the Trap set at night and monitor it closely and frequently especially when it's really cold. You can also use a Wi-Fi, ring, or trail camera to belp with that. Put a thin lining of newspaper on the bottom of the Trap and put his favorite food in the very back along with one of your dirty socks. Put your dirty clothes near the Trap. The Trap should be located near the door through which he escaped. Leave a trail of food from the entrance of the Trap all the way to the back where the food is. Just little treat size droplets of food every couple inches so he can follow it all the way in and Trigger the Trap. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. Good luck.
