Message from Owner

She's probably going to be timid. She was in the back corner of our yard. She normally doesn't stray. We can only imagine she got chased out of our yard by another cat. She might be in a backyard of folks living on S Atlas Dr in Apopka. We miss her and really want her back. She has a vision impairment but can see. We call for her all of the time.

Marie Terese, if your property is not fenced and Jazz is used to roaming freely, although she may have been chased, perhaps she just needs some extra help getting home. Thoroughly search using a flashlight during the day and especially at dusk (when it's dark and quiet) to determine whether she’s ill or injured and hiding nearby, or stuck somewhere. Check every crack and crevice, look in outbuildings, containers, vehicles, under foundations, sheds and porches, into trees, etc. — call and listen carefully for Jazz’s cries (she may alert you to her location). And it’s important to ask neighbors to do the same and make sure Jazz didn’t hide and became trapped in a shed or garage, etc. Please see this list of step-by-step instructions developed to help others in this situation (click on the link) and let me know if you have questions. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10236753035464835&set=p.10236753035464835&type=3 In addition, this video explains the temperament and behavior of a lost cat — it may instill hope of finding Jazz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2eCoC63B9I Good luck. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.

Diana Ellis Jazz freely went inside and outside. I believe she was chased out of our yard. She was very familiar with our yard.

Jazz is a beautiful eartipped brown tabby an white cat with a brown nose -- I'm sorry she's lost. I'm a little confused -- you say she's timid and was in the back corner of the yard, but I'm not sure why. Did Jazz escape the house and/or was chased beyone a fence or enclosure, or is she allowed to roam freely? Her familiarity with the environment will dictate how to find her. Escaped cats usually hide close by but are too frightened to return or respond when called; while a cat that knows her way around may have become stuck somewhere and needs help getting home. I have recovered many lost cats and assisted others so if you tell me about Jazz I can provide complete instructions that may help. Please understand an escaped cat will be fearful and hide close to home so if you search, TIPTOE SILENTLY during the DAYTIME ONLY (no calling or shaking treats) or do just the right things and she may emerge when it's dark and quiet to sneak back inside. This usually happens within the first few nights so until I hear back from you please implement this strategy if Jazz got out accidentally: AT DUSK crack open your fence gate or enclosure door, if applicable, then lay a familiar blanket or worn teeshirt flat on the doorstep where she got out (don't use a litter box, bed, trap, or anything conspicuous) along with a bowl of food. Call her softly to provide a familiar sound and direction (she won't come on command) then watch from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!) and if you see Jazz approach and settle on the food be careful not to startle her. Slowly and quietly provide a clear path inside and she may put an end to the crisis herself. If you can't wait up set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time. Also, although some will suggest putting out kitty's litter box, experts say DON’T DO IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Please read this to learn more about why it's neither necessary nor recommended: https://www.facebook.com/notes/lost-cats-georgia/why-we-dont-recommend-putting-your-lost-cats-litter-box-outside/1101245526665296/
