When I moved, 5 days later my cat got out and was missing for 3 days. I went outside most of the day and out late at night. . I put food out the 3rd night and a cat scratching post and when I open the door around 10, He ran in. Your kitten is probably hiding close and will wait til its dark and quiet to try to get back in. Keep checking the doors often at night.
