Someone has reached out to try to scam me claiming they have my pet but won’t send any pictures to confirm it. They are asking for money to be sent to them. My cat is still lost and hasn’t been found sadly

Time is of the essence. Cats don’t go far from home. Keep the door or window the kitty left from open 24/7 so they can return, usually very late at night. If unable to do that then crack your garage door open enough for her to get in, 24/7. Knock on neighbors doors with a picture letting them know she got out and ask them to keep an eye out, check Ring cameras for any sighting, post as many flyers as possible with kitty’s picture in your and surrounding neighborhoods. Walk late at night when it’s quiet with a flashlight, looking under every shrub for their shining eyes, softly call the kitty’s name and shake their food. Post on Ring, Nextdoor and check with shelters. Don’t give up. 💕

Put litter box outside your fire escape. Something that belongs to you or kids.

Check animal care centers on 110th between 1st and 2nd in Harlem and make a lost pets report with them, check daily Check all their locations, including the Bronx, but the Harlem one is the main one. Ask neighbors to check at dawn and dusk, she may have gone in somewhere and got locked in accidentally. Check at dawn and dusk, they tend to hide and come out at those times. Google and search social media for local rescues, not all have a facility and use those outlets. Ask around if anyone feeds strays, she may show up looking for food. Call all local vets, shelters, precincts in case someone found her and brought her in. Hang flyers. Check Craigslist and other sites that may sell pets. Check found pet section of pawboost. Good luck.

*** Post lots of flyers with large letters that can be seen from a car. Set a humane trap with her favorite food; don't leave it unattended. Leave a scent trail of your things and hers, leading to your house. Leave door ajar, if you can. Go around calling her name gently, carrying her favorite food or a strong-smelling food like fried chicken or sardines, and approach slowly if seen as she may be scared and run (fight or flight mode). Indoor cats are normally within 4 houses of yours. Ask neighbors if YOU can check their backyard, shed, garage; also look under porches and shrubs. Contact a professional pet tracker, such as Teddy Henn who has had wonderful success in finding lost dogs; they use scent dogs and drones to track your companion animal. (Advice from book written by an expert, Finding your Lost Cat by Dusty Rainbolt.) Also check Pawboost if someone found her, and post your cat or dog on Pawboost, which has a high success rate. And pray, God knows where your companion is. Check the city shelter in case someone brought her there. ALWAYS HAVE SCREENS IN WINDOWS WITH COMPANION ANIMALS! Lost Cat Recovery Checklist Immediate Actions ■ Start searching close to where she got out (cats usually hide nearby). ■ Check high & low hiding spots: under cars, porches/decks, shrubs, garages, sheds. ■ Ask neighbors to check open garages/sheds and closed spaces before shutting doors. Best Times to Search ■ Search during quiet/dark hours (best: 12am–7am, especially 1–6am). ■ Use a strong flashlight at night to spot eye reflection. Calling & Approaching ■ Call for her during still hours (overnight/early morning). ■ If you see her: stay calm and quiet (don’t chase). Scent Lures (Safe Options) ■ Put outside: her bed/blanket or your unwashed clothing/bedding. ■ Place scent items near the trap and/or leading toward the door. ■ Do NOT place a litter box outside (can attract predators such as coyotes). Food / Feeding Station ■ Set up a feeding station and feed during the day only. ■ Do NOT leave food out overnight (attracts wildlife & scares cats off). Humane Trap (Highly Recommended) ■ Get a live/humane trap ASAP. ■ Use food only inside the trap (don’t leave food elsewhere). ■ Cover trap with a tarp/blanket for safety and comfort. ■ Check trap frequently—never leave it unattended overnight. ■ In harsh weather: check every 30 minutes. Outreach (Very Important) ■ Post flyers around the neighborhood with phone number (day/night contact). ■ Bring flyers to local vets, shelters (go in person every few days if possible), and pet stores. ■ Tell your mail carrier (they notice roaming pets). ■ Ask known stray feeders/rescuers if they’ve seen her. Mindset ■ Keep checking at different times daily. ■ Don’t give up—cats can be found weeks or months later
