Check within a 3–5 house radius first. • Look in: • Sheds, garages, under decks • Bushes, hedges, bins, and tight gaps • Go out late at night or early morning when it’s quiet. • Call softly—scared cats often won’t respond loudly. Listen carefully • Pause often while searching—your cat might be too scared to come out but may meow faintly. Ask neighbours immediately • Knock on doors and ask them to check: • Sheds and garages (this is the #1 place cats get trapped) • Don’t assume they’ll do it later—ask them to check while you’re there if possible. Bring them home with scent • Put outside: • Their litter tray • Bedding or a blanket they use • An item of your clothing • This helps them find their way back. Food trick • Leave out strong-smelling food (like tuna) at night. • If possible, watch from inside—cats may come back when it’s quiet. Start spreading the word now • Post on: • Local Facebook groups • Nextdoor • Put up a few quick posters on your street today. Contact local places • Call nearby vets and rescues in case someone brings them in. • If microchipped, mark them as missing with the chip company.
