Thank you for helping him. I’m sure his family is missing him. I agreed to contact Wes Valley Humane Society, and/or the Idaho Humane Society, and at least inquire of someone has called asking for him..

Either way, we’ll take him around to check for a chip and if they don’t find one then we’ll take him by West Valley and ask about our options. We’re happy to hand him over to his owner, but we mainly just want to make sure he doesn’t end up in the road.

Gail Walker that is 100% not true! At a minimum, this dog should first be taken to the shelter so that the shelter can scan for a microchip, photograph, and post on their Lost Pet portal. Then at the same time, the finder can offer to foster the dog at their home on behalf of the shelter, with the option of adopting if not claimed. Gem County, where you apparently are, may be different because they do not have a county animal shelter. But this Corgi is found in Canyon County and needs to be taken to West Valley Humane Society in Caldwell.

Dyana Dailey Magsig actually no you do not have to take them there! In fact shelters would prefer for you to hold them. You just need to make a report you found them and a contact number. Our shelters are full enough and if someone wants to hang on to the dog while actively looking for the owner it’s so much better for the dog!

He needs to be taken to West Valley Humane Society. You can tell them that if the owner doesn't claim him within 7 days with proof of ownership, that you are interested in adopting him. Not all pet owners use social media so although posting here is great, chances are great that the owner will never see this post. That's why you're required to take to the shelter since all pet owners know to check at the shelter for their missing pet. Unless you adopt him legally from the shelter, you run the risk of being accused of theft of someone's personal property if you decide to just keep him.
