Please please please go out scent marking with your stinky clothes - IT REALLY DOES WORK - animals 1st line of communication is scents - sight/ visuals & sounds/voices are secondary - your kitty will never forget your scent but they do get turned around as to which way is home because typical housing even in apartments all look very similar to your neighbor's place - first go out on a short walk out a few houses away or apartments away in each direction scent marking with your stinky clothes & double back scent marking on your way back as well, then go down the block after, this is for reinforcement of your scent - scent marking on permanent things like trees, bushes, large rocks, fencing, light posts, mailboxes, & on the siding & railings on the apartment building near & around your door if in an apartment, not your neighbors doors in an apartment complex because they all look the same, only scent mark your door, but siding, & railings leading to your door reinforces your scent in the direction you want your kitty to come home to - not on cars as people move those or on grasses that get mowed - then double back the same way you went coming back to your place - reinforcing your scent in the area that your kitty is in the right place to come home to is essential - each day you will go out further on your walks scent marking & doubling back - go down each side of the street on a walk & double back again - if you live in apartments do the scent marking in and around your building each day on those permanent things & up your railing, your stairs, & the siding leading directly to your door, don't do this on other buildings in the complex, only do the scent marking around your complex on items like bushes, trees, mailboxes, light posts, fences etc - around your building but not in the stairwells or siding of other buildings only on objects that will lead your kitty back to your place through the scent that you leave behind to not confuse the direction you want your kitty to be led in - think of it this way, if you were wanting someone you love to your place where you live for the first time you have to give directions or something to lead someone you love back home & they were lost, you may use chalk on sidewalks with arrows pointing in the direction you want them to go, it's the same way with the scent marking, you want to be methodical not random - it may seem ridiculous but it does work - our neighbor's cat went missing for 9 months - they stayed diligent in continuing to do the scent marking even through winter & did not give up - it is stressful but remaining steadfast is imperative, while it is not a 100% guarantee, a 98% return are very very high odds - meaning 98% are not injured by vehicles or by predators or picked up & kept by someone else as the experts in the trenches that do this day in & day out have said - leaving out stinky socks by your doors & out by corners of your yard by a bush or tree reinforces your scent & even in your backyard as well - calling your cat normally does not work, they get scared & turned around & go into "survival mode" so cats normally will not come when being called - scents speak louder & clearer to them - early mornings & evenings seem to be when they show up - some people say to leave out food & water, this is a judgement call but can attract feral cats that could push your kitty away - cats can typically go 3-7 days without water & 7-14 days without food, so this will be their first priority, if there is a water source nearby, after a few days if your kitty hasn't returned it is a good idea to go on a walk to that source scent marking & double back but not right away because the experts have said that within the first week to 10 days they are normally within a few blocks radius of your home, the longer they stay away the further out they'll venture but even after many weeks they are normally only up to a mile radius in any direction within where your home is - the scent marking on walks as often as you can each day is critical though, & remember to reinforce directly within 100 feet of your home's radius to make the scent strongest there, after a couple days then go out further on walks doubling back, then further & so on the longer your kitty is out on an adventure because it is difficult to know in which direction your kitty is in - knock on doors, have flyers ready to give to neighbors of what you posted here & ask them to check up trees, even declawed cats can climb, under bushes, ESPECIALLY IN DEEP WINDOW WELLS, under motor homes & boats, in sheds, under sheds, in garages - hoping & praying that your kitty returns home very very soon!!!

Create a scent station (items with your/your cat’s smell - unwashed bedding, clothing, cat tower, etc. Especially important if cat is in new/unfamiliar area. Do NOT put out litter pan as feces often used to mark territory and may inadvertently attract predators or territorial cats.). Check it often, especially when things are quiet (late evening/early morning). Leave the garage door open 5” overnight. Check nearby Ring/security cameras in the area. Check in and under everything inside and outside with a flashlight. Cats don’t usually go far and freeze in a tight ball in very small, tight, dark areas when scared. The flashlight catches their eyes’ stare, especially at night. Thoroughly check inside your home, especially if this is a new/shy/scared pet. Post on NextDoor app as it covers your local neighborhoods. Be sure to check your local animal shelter in person at least every other day (can’t stress enough - in person!!! You know your pet best plus animals constantly brought in). If your cat is not spayed/neutered, may be why it is “lost” and traveling further. Hope your pet is home safe and soon. Get out calling Kitty's name especially early and late when it's quiet. Search high and low with a flashlight. Put up posters with number large enough to be seen while driving. And post on next door.

Zaria Wise I wish you all the best. Sharing a success story that a girl posted. The girl sprayed her perfume on the 4 tires of her car and the cat was found under the car. Meaning - the perfume scent was familiar to the cat and he followed that scent home. Since your cat is skittish I imagine that she will move only when she feels safe - at night when noise level is low - as she is probably so afraid right now that she found a secure safe spot to keep her protected from all these strange daytime noises. Suzan Reynolds thank you so much! We have a scent station going & unfortunately nothing was caught on the cameras, we suspect she got out through a window late into the night. We have contacted our neighbours as well & now plan to go out tonight with flashlights to find her. We will try and make her an access point as well thank you so much again for the tips

General Information: Set up a scent station. Hang clothes with your scent on it (Worn clothing from owner) high up outside so the familiar scent can travel and guide the cat back home. NO CAT BOX OR FOOD. Ask your neighbors to check their yard/could be accidently stuck in their garage or shed. (If applicable) Check doorbell or home camera - or ask neighbors to check their camera. Post Fliers with a picture of the cat and your contact information in the area the cat went missing. Not everyone is on Social Media and posters have worked in that if spotted a location can be provided. If a cat is scared they make themselves safe by finding a good hiding spot and often times hide in silence. Look in bushes - bring a flashlight and look for shining eyes. Best time to find your cat is in the early morning hours when the noise level is low and they feel safe. Leave an access point open for the cat to return. This is important if they do come back in the middle of the night. Prayers your cat returns/ or is found safely. Beware of scammers.
