Description

Shorthair Tabby with a scar on his right earlobe, black stripe from head to tail. Elderly Cat

Message from Owner

Skunkie is an elderly cat that has grown up with my daughter and now granddaughter. He protects family by walking with them to their car at night and also always greeting them when they arrive like a child would. So excited and happy. He keeps the mice and rats away but never harms any. He is extremely friendly, but also very shy with strangers. Our whole entire family…cousins, aunts, uncles, & grandparents are desperate to find him. He lives as an indoor/outdoor kitty for the past 19 years. *This cannot be how we lose him. Please bring him to live the rest of his short years with the love he deserves.

Helpful guidance: https://www.charlesriveralleycats.org/gethelp/lost and https://www.mspca.org/pet_resources/how-the-mspca-can-help-you-find-a-lost-pet/ Also, people on Nextdoor are often recommending Nadja, a volunteer from The Cat Connection, to help with the search: 617-529-3362

Place clothing with your scent on it by your front and back doors ... Also place a large amount of catnip around your home -really worked for me. Then, please reach out to Nadja .... Call or Text Her at 617-529-3362 she is a volunteer with The Cat Connection, who will both offer guidance as well as equipment, such as a humane trap and camera .... She has helped reunite many owners in our area with their lost cats. There is never a charge. Also notify Melrose Humane Society, a no cat rescue group. They can help the cat. You can email brian.aurilio@gmail.com or call/text 781.771.7607 to reach Brian to Rescue the cat. Please be aware that MSCPA and ARL are both shelters.

Take anything from these instructions that you possibly can: Catnip and your scent outside ASAP! LOST CAT OUTDOORS - You need to search personally as neighbors won’t search as thoroughly as you would. Bring catnip, treats and a flashlight, even in daylight, it’s very dark under porches etc. Ask to go in yards, not only beside you but in back, on the next street behind you and across your street and on the next street. I found my neighbors cat in the very yard next door to his own house. Although the owner had been calling and walking around the blocks calling, he stayed hunkered down in a dense garden when I found him too afraid to come out. You need to get down and dirty and search under everything. YOU MUST BE CONSISTENT & DILIGENT - Sprinkle LOTS of catnip by entrance and stairs s/he went out. - Down to sidewalk. Be generous. - If you have predators, such as coyotes, only put food outside when you can monitor it - Put a scoop of real tunafish or rotisserie chicken (not catfood) in a dish, and put it be the door. Preferably, if you can do so safely, leave the door open slightly and place the food dish inside. Or in a nearby window you can leave open enough for cat to climb back inside. If this is not possible, try to shelter it near where cat went out if you have a porch or something. - Hang worn (not cleaned) pieces of your clothing, like the shirt you wore today, dirty socks, slippers, or the pjs you worn last night, around shrubs, railings - the scent will drift. Also inside for cat to snuggle up on and for your scent. - Call the cat OFTEN especially throughout the night, LOUD ENOUGH to be heard from a couple of neighboring yards away. It is quiet at night and most cats stay nearby, but venture out in the dark. Shake a treat bag, and then stop and LISTEN closely for a meow. Check door every 30 minutes! Especially overnight. - Use a flashlight (even in daylight) to search under schrubs, porches (bend down and look way under with the light in the dark corners) sheds, under grills, pool decks, garages, bat windows, under cars, up in trees. - Ask your neighbors if you can go into their yards and search too. They may not search as thoroughly as you would. At night, the eyes will glow. - Knock on doors, talk to people face to face, showing them a picture, tell them where you live. This goes a long way. Put flyers on telephone poles. Be sure to weatherproof them, You can get sheet protectors (these are plastic sleeves like you would find in a photo album, that fit a regular size piece of paper 8 1/2” x 11”) at the dollar store.
