Be very PROACTIVE in finding your cat. It increases the odds tremendously. Try to find your kitty before it gets dark. That’s when the coyotes come into many, many neighborhoods in New Hanover County and surrounding counties. The most important things you have to do are below. He will instinctively be hiding and is naturally very frightened being outdoors and instinctively knows it’s dangerous out there. Start looking and calling him immediately. Nighttime time is crucial to be out with a flashlight for searching. Cats are nocturnal. You have to go outside immediately and walk around calling his name softly. He is hiding nearby and he won’t go very far unless something scares him away. Check all bushes, cats love to hide there. Look around all bushes, under decks, inside crawlspaces and call down into all storm drains near you. Check garages, sheds, under cars (a very common hiding place for cats to use). Ask neighbors to look in these places also. Walk up and down your street as far as 3 to 4 houses both ways calling him and take a flashlight so you can see his eyes glowing in the dark. Leave a WINDOW OPEN during the DAY because he might come in that way. It happens frequently. Important! Leave your garage door cracked open about 6 inches 24/7 so he always has a safe place to go! Put his used litter box in your yard ONLY during the Day. He will smell it to find his home. Put his cat bed outside in your yard. The idea is to put anything outside that has his scent on it, so he knows where his home is. A cat’s sense of smell is their main sense. But do not leave his litter box outside at night because coyotes recognize these smells and you’ll attract them. They are everywhere and prey on cats. ***Put several pieces of your worn, UNWASHED clothing around your yard. He can smell them from very far away and it will lead him home if he’s lost. He is very frightened and is hiding outside. That’s what cats always do!! Be sure to look for him when it starts to get dark, that’s when he will come out of hiding. Take a flashlight with you and look for his eyes shining in the dark. It works. He’s so sweet and I hope you find him right away! 🙏🙏💕💕💕🐈🐈‍⬛ He will stay near home, so first concentrate on searching and calling him softly near your own house. You can print out his flyer on PawBoost and it’s a great way to alert your neighbors by leaving a flyer on their front doorstep. Hope you find him quickly!! 🙏🙏💕💕💕🐈🌸🏡🐈‍⬛🦋
