We recently rescued an incredibly sweet dog off the street, and we are looking to find him the perfect forever home. We were considering keeping him but our we already have our hands full with 2 other dogs and a 2 year old toddler, and very recent events are also forcing us to find him a new home. 🚨IMPORTANT: This dog has been very protective of my spouse after bonding with her his very first night with us. Unfortunately, this led to an event last night where he bit our 2 year old child, who we think he viewed as "attacking" my spouse while everyone was wresting on the couch. We can't recommend that a family with young children adopt him, but if you are willing to tackle this behavioral issue, we think he'll make for an incredible companion. Here is everything you need to know about "Gene Parmesan" (you are welcome to change his name :D ) 🩺 Health & Medical Status Current Status: He is fully up to date on his shots and flea . According to the vet, he is approximately 1-year old (based on how clean his teeth are). Upcoming Surgery: He is getting neutered and having surgery to fix his cherry eye tomorrow (June 2nd). He will need about 2 weeks of low-key recovery time. 🛋️ Personality & Perks Gene is a fantastic companion with a lot of love to give. Low-maintenance energy: He loves to lounge on the couch and cuddle in bed. Great traveler: He does wonderfully during car rides and adaptable to new environment (we took him river floating recently and he although i'm not sure if he enjoys water yet, he was very happy lounging in an inflatable boat) Quiet & Gentle: He rarely barks, did amazing at the vet, and handles body handling well (he lets us inspect his paws and teeth without issue). People friendly: He is generally great with people; minus the protective behavior of course. Not food-motivated: He's actually a bit picky with treats! 🎓 Training & Behavior Notes (Things to Keep in Mind) We want to be entirely transparent so he finds the right match: Potty Training & Recall: He is not yet potty trained and does not have a reliable recall, so he will need a patient owner ready to work on the basics. Resource Guarding / Jealousy: Gene bonded hard with my wife on his first night. Because of this, he has shown some protective jealousy when cuddling if people or dogs get close to her. His future owners will need to set clear boundaries early on to prevent him from resource-guarding his favorite human. 🚗 Logistics & Timeline We are looking to transition him to his new home ASAP, as the risk he poses to our young child is too great. We are actively looking for a temporary family or shelter to care for him as he recovers from his surgery. If you or someone you know is looking for a loyal, couch-snuggling companion, please send me a message! We'd love to chat and see if it's a good match. video:

CA law states you can't adopt out a found dog until you report as found to the county animal shelter. Contra Costa Animal Services. If you want to hold onto the dog it must be for 30 days and only after then can you adopt him out. If you can't hold for 30 days he must be surrendered to the shelter.

Was this dog ever reported to CCAS when found? That’s a critical thing to do, in addition to being the law. https://www.contracosta.ca.gov/819/I-Found-an-Animal
