A personal anecdote from a recent lost dog case: “It’s been almost a week and Daisy’s owner Donna daughter Jenny (whose number was on the posters) got a call tonight that Daisy was seen in a culdesac on the same street where we have a trap set but it’s a long street and the dog was far from the trap…so i told daughter Jenny to get her mom and the three of us met in the aforementioned culdesac… The people in the cul-de-sac said they had seen her run north on Jade so I started walking down Jade and I couldn’t find anyone who had seen her so I thought she must’ve gone to ground pretty quick after that sighting… Given the trap was kinda far away from this sighting the plan was to move it closer to this new spot so I started walking back to my car to go get it …I thought I should look under a house cause she had to be so close and I looked under the same two porches at one house two or three times each and I kept walking away and looking again…went to leave again and said I need to look under here one more time and she was totally looking back at me and I could barely see her because it was so dark and she is so dark and then I called Jenny and said I could see her and to come to where I was cause i didnt want to move and spook her and she and her mom came and just crept up and talked to her and said she was a good girl and she popped her head out then started emerging and she did think about not coming to them for a few seconds, but then ultimately crossed back over to pet vs. wild animal/fight or flight mindset because of something they said or catching their smell or both. Things we always say that were proven true: • she could hear owner and her daughter calling and talking for 15-ish minutes and didn’t come to them even though she was about 1.5-3 houses away • there is a good chance lost, skittish dogs will take advantage of first available hiding spot • posters work • she was still skittish when she saw people she knew and they had to play it cool like it was any other day to get her to come…Jenny and I were both laying on our stomachs and owner was standing kind of between us • It’s almost totally impossible and actually was impossible to see a dark dog hiding in a dark spot that is holding as still as possible to avoid attracting attention and that was in broad daylight.” https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1akH1pQMA6/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Cynthia White I have one of her favorite towels on the deck by the door. I have also been shaking a container of her favorite treats when I walk the neighborhood. The food trail idea sounds good
