[DT] This is absolutely despicable and I'm so sorry you and your fur baby are going through this. Although you do need to file a police report, I am going to warn you that while pets are considered personal property, unless they're an expensive show dog, they don't have any more value than a cheap piece of furniture as far as the police are concerned. It's a misdemeanor theft. It really is going to be incumbent on you to collect whatever evidence you can. Personal, neighbors, and business video can be very helpful. The police can trace any vehicle seen that was involved. However, the police will likely treat this as a civil case, so if you already know or can find out who has your dog, you may need to go to the district court in your county and file a replevin to reclaim your property. If you don't know who was involved, it is extremely important to put up large neon posters with a good picture of your dog (side view) and only the words "stolen dog" and your phone number for contact. You can offer a reward if you're able. You can cover them with clear cellophane or clear trash bags to protect them from the elements. Check your local ordinances for posting the signs , because some don't allow them and they can be taken down without notice. You can buy a dozen 4 ft engineer stakes for about $25 from a hardware store and put your signs on them, and post them on private property with permission. Post these at every major intersection within at least 2-3 miles. Distribute handouts - you can make 4 out of one 8.5 x 11 page - to all neighbors, your mail carrier, delivery drivers, and even on windshields in local store parking lots. Hopefully, a good samaritan will report the person who has your dog. I hope your dog is microchipped, however, most vets do not routinely scan new patients for chips. Do an online search for every vet within at least 10 miles and send them pictures and information about your dog, so they can keep that on file in case someone eventually comes in with your fur baby. If they recognize your dog, then maybe they will scan for a chip and contact you. Most vets have an email address or a way to send this information to them on their websites. Post on other lost and found pet websites and local neighborhood social media sites. Also, the thief may try and sell your fur baby, so check all Craigslist and Facebook pages that place animals. You can also contact local news stations about the theft and hopefully, one will cover it. In case the thief dumps your fur baby, contact animal control and all shelters. Do searches starting with gender only, because dog breeds are often incorrect. All of this can be extremely overwhelming and time-consuming, but taking all of these steps is necessary, and is your best chance of getting your fur baby home. My heart goes out to you.💙

You must take action! Please consistently check with vets, rescues and shelters (IN PERSON) - even those not in your area to see if he has been picked up. Also, please put out flyers offering a reward for his return. There are so many predators – including evil human beings! He is counting on you and I am praying he is safe and you get him back asap!❤😢

do any of your neighbors have an outside door camera that may have captured who stole him? In the meantime post signs with the dogs' picture and your contact information on the sign. Post these signs all over as if someone spots your dog the person can contact you and provide a location of where the dog is. (Not everyone is on Social Media). Ask your neighbors to check their doorbell or house cameras (if applicable), sheds and garage. You can also set up a scent station using your worn clothing or shoes in case the person let the dog go. Set up the scent station - post the fliers and ask if someone has this on their cameras. Call or go to the Animal Shelter in your area and tell them that your dog is missing to see if it has been picked up. Prayers your dog is found safely. Beware of scammers.
