Lost Pet To-Do List Las Vegas / Henderson, Nevada 1. Search your own home and yard first Check closets, garages, sheds, under beds, behind appliances, bushes, block walls, side gates, patios, crawl spaces, and nearby hiding spots. Frightened pets often stay very close at first. 2. Walk the neighborhood immediately Bring a leash, carrier, treats, a flashlight, and a clear photo. Speak calmly. Do not chase a scared pet — sit low, use a gentle voice, and try to lure with food. 3. Call, check and go in person to the correct shelter every day For Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and unincorporated Clark County, check The Animal Foundation. Lost pets brought there are generally held under the City of Las Vegas, City of North Las Vegas, or Clark County jurisdiction for a 72-hour legal hold, unless reclaimed sooner. The Animal Foundation’s Pet Support Hotline is 702-760-PETS. For Henderson, call Henderson Animal Protection Services / Henderson Animal Care & Control at 702-267-4970. Henderson says lost/found animals are held for a minimum of three days for owner reclaim. 4. Search online shelter listings daily Best to go in person. Check The Animal Foundation Lost & Found Search and 24Petconnect every day. Photos can be delayed, and descriptions may be imperfect, so look at every similar animal, not just exact breed or color matches. The Animal Foundation often does not immediately upload new intakes on websites. Some animals may not be listed at all. The Desk Staff often are not aware of all the dogs and cats that are in the kennels. Bring your receipt of the vaccinations that your dog (cat) has had with you when you go to The Animal Foundation to look for your pet. Notify your microchip company that your dog or cat is missing. Post on Craigslist under Community in Pets to prevent anyone from selling there. 5. Call nearby veterinarians and emergency animal hospitals Give them the pet’s photo and your phone number. Ask if anyone has brought in an injured or found pet matching yours. 10. Leave scent items outside Put out the pet’s bedding, your worn clothing, and water. For cats, place familiar bedding near the door or garage. Avoid leaving large amounts of food unattended if it may attract coyotes or other animals. 11. For lost cats: search quietly at night Cats often hide silently nearby. Go out late evening or early morning with a flashlight; shine under cars, bushes, porches, sheds, and block walls. Bring smelly food, but stay quiet and patient. 12. For lost dogs: ask for sightings, not chasing Tell neighbors: “Please do not chase. Please take a photo if possible and call immediately with the exact location and direction of travel.” Chasing can push a scared dog farther away. 13. Check found-pet posts, not just lost-pet posts Search “found dog,” “found cat,” “stray dog,” “loose dog,” and your cross streets. Also search nearby ZIP codes. 14. Beware of scams Scammers sometimes contact lost-pet owners claiming they have the pet and demanding money. Ask for a current photo or video of the pet before giving any reward or personal information. Be cautious of threats, excuses, or demands for payment before proof. 15. When your pet is found Update every post as REUNITED, remove flyers, notify shelters and vets, and make sure the pet has a collar, ID tag, license, and updated microchip. Henderson requires dogs and cats over four months old to be microchipped and licensed. Most Important Reminder Do not give up after one day. Many pets are found days, weeks, or even longer after going missing. Keep checking shelters, online listings, and neighborhood posts every single day.
