First and foremost do not give up hope. There is a network of people who will help you find your fur baby and get the word out to a lot of people. 1) Put up a ton of fliers in your area. 2) Ask your neighbors to check around and in their homes to see if your cutie is trapped somewhere. 3) Check shed/garages/ kids toys and you might find this hard to believe, but some cats get trapped in trees. One cat had gone into a neighbors garage, owner closed and locked the door not knowing the cat was there. The cat was there for over a week when the owner opened the garage again. The cat went flying out of there and back home. Dirty and hungry but ok. 4) Check all your closets, attic and basement, even drawers. One cat was trapped in a drawer for a week after grandma shut the drawer and did not realize the cat w as there. One day the owner opened the drawer and there was the cat looking at her like "Where have you been? I have been waiting for you". But the cat never made a sound. 5) Check the ACO to see if kitty has been brought in. 7) If kitty has a microchip make sure the information is up to date.8) If you have a have a heart trap, put something in it that has an article with yours or who ever kitty goes to the most with their scent on it. Make sure this article has not been washed. Other animals will not be attracted to this scent. 9) Walk around the area with treats. This is a long process and it maybe some time before kitty comes out for a treat. 10) Make copies of photos and go to all vets and places like Pet Smart and see if they recognize your kitty, if not ask if you can put up a picture in hopes that someone will recognize your cutie. VERY IMPORTANT: 11) Do NOT dismiss any possible sightings based on distance. Indoor cats normally do not travel more than 2 miles from home but they can. I have seen cats go missing from Chatham, MA and be found 7 months later in Waltham. 12)Photos can be deceiving due to lighting. Many times owners think its not their cats, because the photos do not look like them, then they check it out, and its their cat. And lastly, if you have moved lately, inform your old neighbors about kitty being missing. Again, you would be surprised how many find their way back to their old home. Pawboost is a good starting place, you might also want to put the information on Helpinglostpets.com. They also have a large base. Do not hesitate to put up updates to remind us kitty is still missing or even better has been found and back home safe and sound. Many of us are very focused on helping to bring kitty home, but there are so many that go missing or are found and we are trying to find the owner that others get lost in the shuffle and I am sure you also see how quickly notices get pushed back and makes it hard to find them.
