My friend’s cat has been missing for almost a week now and we’re very worried about him. He's very sweet but might be scared. We really miss him and want him

Hope he comes home soon, safe and sound. Check with AniMeals, the Humane Society and Animal Control. Check more than once! These agencies generally hold a found pet for about 1 week then they put them up for adoption. Also post in Missoula Lost Pets! He likely hasn't gone far. He's probably hunkered down and frightened but close by. Look under porches, in bushes, trees etc. do the same thing after dark using a flashlight, look for the reflections from his eyes. You might try going out in your yard or on your porch when it's quiet (early evening for instance) and just start talking or even singing softly...he may respond to the sound of your voice. Opening a can of his favorite food outside or shaking a bag with his favorite treats and calling to him while you're outside talking, may also get his attention. Check with the shelters in your area and ask your neighbors to check their garages or other outbuildings. You can put a favorite blanket or toy outside on your porch or by your door (something with his scent or even yours). Be aware that if you live in an area with lots of wildlife, using a litterbox for it's scent, may attract predators (think raccoons, coyotes). Check with vet offices nearby and post flyers there too. People will often pick up a friendly cat and take them to be scanned for a chip at a vet's office or nearby shelter...even if he isn't chipped, let nearby vets know he's missing, you may get lucky. Post flyers in local gathering places, markets etc., many have bulletin boards. Good luck and let us know when you find him

Here are some tips to help bring your cat back: Search the neighborhood and ask if you can look in their their yard yourself rather than just ask if they've seen your cat. They might not have noticed if a cat has been hiding under their deck. LOOK IN SMALL SPACES such as bat window wells, under cars, bushes, sheds, under decks, wood piles, drainage pipes etc. ***Please go outside and call for her especially once it is dark and quiet. A live trap rented from the pound may be successful. One tip is to use a baby monitor or other security camera pointed in your yard toward the trap so you can monitor if and when your cat is coming around since it’s often in the dark of night. Check small spaces she could be hiding under or in. A number of local cats were recently found locked in neighbor's garage attics (ask neighbors to check their garages, sheds, window wells, etc), and another cat was recently found in a nearby drainage ditch.** PUT OUT THEIR LITTERBOX. Sounds weird, but it works. It's about smells. Also maybe put out their bedding or your clothing. PUT OUT SMELLY FOOD like sardines, tuna, canned cat food. Some have put it in a garage with the door part way open, or they even left the window open and food near the sill. Also LEAVE YOUR GARAGE DOOR OPEN a foot. Some cats have come home and been found meowing in their garage in the middle of the night! Post on the Next Door website or app as well to let people in your neighborhood know. Additionally, post on Craigslist, and the HelpingLostPets page and also the Pawboost Facebook page. A free flyer can be made on Pawboost and also on HelpingLostPets. And definitely contact authorities. If you have created the free flyer, you can email or leave a printout with them. Please check the pound every couple days.
