Also, since they usually do not go far at first, you could put out a Humane Trap near your door-- They sell them at the Farm Stores and I believe, online at Amazon and Chewy. (Have A Heart brand is a good one....) Sometimes the local Shelters will lend them out to you, so it is worth asking that question too! If you do set out a trap, first cut up a paper plate in fourths, like a pie. Take one of those paper plate sections and put about a Tablespoon of Tuna Fish on it. Slide that paper plate section all the way to the back of the open trap. That way, your Kitty will have to walk ALL the way into the trap to get the Tuna Fish. The door will snap shut behind them and you can then take them back inside your home. Night time is usually the time you will have the best luck, as cats are nocturnal (although, if hungry enough, you might find them back in there later in the daytime, maybe around supper time). ****CHECK THE TRAP FREQUENTLY while set!!!***! -- Don't put it out, if you cannot check on it frequently, because snow/cold weather can drop their body temperatures VERY quickly and they will not survive. So yes, please keep checking it!!

I am so very sorry. Some things you might do-- Leave some of their bedding, and/or an item of your clothing (unwashed-- they would recognize from the familiar scent). You might try leaving the uncleaned litter box outside by your door. Leave some treats and favorite food by your door too. Don't leave food out overnight as it will attract other animals that can scare the cat away. Since it is colder and damp at night, maybe get a big plastic storage tub, set it on it's side and put the bedding inside this. Try to make SURE the bedding doesn't get wet!! Leave it near your door. *****Many times cats are found within a few hundred feet of their homes. Under shrubs, behind garbage cans, inside neighbor's garages etc.... When you are out looking, check at dark and early in the morning --when it is still very dark outside. That is when they are most active. Use a VERY BRIGHT Flashlight, If they respond at home, to a spoon clanking around inside a catfood can, bring that along! If they know the sound of a treats bag rustling, bring that too! DON'T Yell for them!! Use your regular "Inside Voice", so as not to scare them more! ******Put out your kitty's LITTER BOX--UNCLEANED. They can smell the scent for a LONG way!! **** When they get out like this, they are frightened, and will hide. Post flyers around your neighborhood with your phone number that people can call day or night, and talk to your mail carrier. They see lots of animals. If they see a strange cat skulking around, they may recognize it as yours. Also, PUT UP POSTERS!!!!!!! That is one of THE biggest things to help get the word out locally!!! Tell your neighbors and give them your phone number so they can call you if they see your cat in their yard! Call your local Police, your Vet's Office and the Warden to report the loss of your dear pet. Send them a photo too!! Also maybe post on Sam the Parrot, also here on Facebook. It too gets a lot of people posting about lost or found pets in the Greater Cleveland Area. Also, you might check to see if your town has a "Home Page" website. Very often, these Home Page websites, have a Lost and Found Pets page. It may be well worth it! Also, the website, Nextdoor is a real good one to sign up with for things like this! When you sign up, anything you post, goes by your zipcode there. So, any neighbors who are also signed up on this website, will see your information and photos too! Good Luck on this.... :(
