In the 2cnd 25th Judicial District Court of Guadalupe County, Judge Crawford presiding over the trial of case number 23-1166-CR-A, Seguin Police Department Sgt Bruno Cavazos was under state subpoena, subpoenaed by the state prosecutor, but when the prosecutor called Sgt Cavazos’ name three times in trial to testify he did not appear. Sgt Cavazos violated a state subpoena, committed a crime by violating a subpoena. When the Honorable Guadalupe County District Judge Crawford asked the state prosecutor where Sgt Cavazos was the prosecutor answered “ he said that he was in Orlando Florida. DISNEYWORLD.” After Sgt Bruno Cavazos returned home from his magical adventure he was not arrested. He was not charged. If you, or I , or any citizen of Guadalupe County failed to appear in court, violated a state subpoena, what would happen? We would be arrested! Why the double standard? Cavazos is a veteran of Seguin PD. Indeed he is the highest ranking officer on the Alpha shift. He committed a crime but was not disciplined in any way. No fine. Nothing. Do you think that law enforcement should be treated equally? Or, is it too much to expect that law enforcement should be held to a higher standard than the common citizen considering the fact that they are LAW ENFORCEMENT? Citizens of Seguin: ask your elected officials about case number 23-1166-CR-A. Ask how it is that Sgt Cavazos was not arrested or charged? Ask if this poor leadership sets a bad precedent and example? If the highest ranking officer of Seguin Police Department can violate a state subpoena, which is a crime, and not face any charges or consequences- why? Shouldn’t the citizens of Seguin expect better from a veteran superior officer? Don’t you think that this double standard is extremely troubling? Citizens are apparently under the law while simultaneously Seguin PD is above the law. Ask Judge Crawford citizens. Ask the Chief of Police. Ask Guadalupe County Sheriff Ray - if he can find the time to tear himself away from crying for more officers then maybe he’ll answer you. I suggest that more officers are not needed. Why don’t the citizens of this county and the citizens of Seguin demand that the officers already paid for by the tax payers actually do their job. And, I know this is a stretch, but before the Sheriff publicly whines about a lack of officers , why doesn’t he right the wrongs he has with the officers he has? You wouldn’t have a shortage of officers if they were not charged with sexual assault on inmates. It was extremely distasteful of Sheriff Ray to publicly cry about his shortage of officers 30 days after losing three because of sexual assault charges! This evinces a severe lack of self awareness! Sign my petition on Change.org to hold GCADC and Sheriff Ray accountable. Citizens- ask your elected officials good questions.
