Felicia Fine I'm sure you really meant well and have probably witnessed all kinds of mind blowing crap in the world of rescuing so I can understand your concern. There were some things I didn't mention as well purposely so that someone couldn't try to use it to pull a scam. I felt confident that l would hear from the owner since the AAHA site info said the chip had been updated 5days ago. I'm beyond relieved someone is looking for him and I hope they are reunited tomorrow. Gail at OAS was super nice and helpful. I didn't get the name of the woman who attended him after we brought him to his kennel but she was very kind also. *Exhale* whew! Here's to what seems to be leading to a happy ending for Kodiak and his family.

Kristen Mariposa Wonderful; glad Kodiak is at OAS, which is exactly where he needs/needed to be. I pasted this post to Kodiak’s Lost post the moment I saw it today. I knew it was almost certainly him; the markings and nose coloration matched. I understand not wanting to “overwhelm” our already crowded city shelter; however, it’s extremely important that any lost/dumped/stray dog in Oakland *ALWAYS* be promptly reported to OAS, as it’s not only the legal and responsible thing to do, but it’s where the dog’s human will always go to search for it (provided they weren’t a dump and are actually searching, of course…). I’m sure this post has been an educational lesson for many, and that’s important. Please try to remember that many ppl don’t have the 1st clue what to do when they find a stray, and way too many pets go missing as a result of not reporting them properly when found, but rather, ppl either keeping them or handing them off to neighbors, friends, or strangers on the internet. It’s great that Kodiak was chipped and that you contacted OAS. (And yes, your initial post wasn’t clear regarding the situation). Hopefully, this prompts Kodiak’s owners — and everyone else — to always make sure their contact info is correct and current on the national, free chip registries! Everyone, MICROCHIP YOUR PETS — and be sure to REGISTER THE CHIPS.
