Rita Palmer Sun, Sep 28, 9:52 AM (1 day ago) to ritadpalmer When cats run away, they typically hide close to home, often in a concealed location like under a deck or in dense bushes, and may stay hidden for days without responding. This is due to their territorial instincts, fear of predators, or unfamiliarity with their surroundings. Indoor cats are especially prone to hiding near their escape point, while outdoor cats might wander further to find prey or other cats. I would make sure I have food outside with water, and the cats blankets, toys and a camera going. The smells is important. We use chicken and a little cat nip. I fill the bowl with dry food and pieces of chicken on top. Open a side or back door a few inches and put the same thing inside, with cat nip.

A few things you can try are: cats are active at night and early morning, walk around the outside of your house/building and whisper their name, do not shout it, the less yelling and excitement the better and then listen for a meow. Also, you can take a flashlight and shine it in bushes and trees to catch a reflection from their eyes. They usually don't stray very far from home. Put his food/water, catnip, and clothing you wore earlier in the day in front or in back of your house, they say cats can smell up to a mile. Do not leave the food out overnight as it may attract other animals that can scare the kitty away. Go to your neighbors and let them know your kitty got out and give them your contact info. Walk your neighborhood, shake the treat jar and talk to people as you walk and talk to your mail carrier. They see lots of animals and if they see a strange Kitty around they may recognize it as yours. Make sure you call local animal shelters, etc. Cats can disappear for days, weeks, months or longer and return so don't give up!
