I'm so very sorry to hear this, and I do understand how distressing it must be. However, most missing cats are so often found near home. If Winnie is in unfamiliar surroundings, she'll be frightened and confused, and will probably find the first safe place, as she sees it, to hide, and it will be very close to her point of escape. She will probably revert to survival mode, which means that she'll see everything as a potential threat, and this will include her foster carer, even though she knows her voice, so be patient when searching and calling her name. Just because you don't see or hear anything doesn't necessarily mean she's not there. Cats can stay hidden and silent for several days, sometimes much longer, only venturing out when it's dark in search of food and, then, returning to their "safe" place. Best time to search is early morning or dusk as it's quieter. Take a red bulb torch which will reflect her eyes. Rattle a packet of treats and house or car keys which might be familiar to her, and call her name, softly. Don't sound anxious as this will spook her further. Some people suggest pretending to talk into your mobile phone in your normal voice. Stand still for a few minutes to give her time to respond, if there. Always have a point of entry for her, at home, such as a partially open window or door or wedged cat flap, as many missing cats do find their way home in the early hours of the morning. Keep repeating this pattern. It's essential you ask neighbours to check and recheck garages, sheds, outbuildings etc in case she's locked inside. Better if they let you check because she'll be frightened of strangers, and even then, may still stay hidden and unresponsive. Ask if they'll leave a door slightly open so she can come out, in her own time, if there. Thoroughly check gardens, under decking and thick shrubbery, between buildings and gaps etc. Cats can crawl into tiny spaces and hide or get stuck. A cat was also found in a disused greenhouse, after two weeks but, thankfully, survived. Look up trees and on flat roofs. Check under parked vehicles in case she's injured. If there are any empty buildings or houses for sale or houses with people away, call through letterboxes or cat flaps if there are any, and listen for any sound. If there's any building work or DIY going on, ask foreman or owner to check premises. A cat was recently rescued from underneath floorboards. Also check buildings where people come and go such as Village Halls, Scout huts, even churches and schools, as cats have been found locked inside all these places. Cats are good at sneaking into places with doors open, then getting locked in. Put posters everywhere and flyers through letterboxes, as not everyone uses social media. Someone could be feeding her, just round the corner, not realising she's lost. This happens a lot. Not everyone is on Facebook, or thinks to get a visiting cat checked for a chip or taken to the vet. Put a poster in your front window and garage door or garden gate. Put one in your car and ask friends to do the same. Give one to postie, milk man, bin men, delivery men, paper boy or girl etc one. Children are very observant too, so if there are any kiddies near you, ask them to keep a lookout for Winnie, as well. Hang some of your unwashed clothes on a line outside your house, and something of hers such as a blanket or bed or toy. Smelly socks and insoles are good too.ter contents of your vacuum cleaner outside, as familiar smells carry on the wind, and cats have a very keen sense of smell, over several miles. DO NOT leave dirty cat litter tray outside, because it will attract other cats, who'll leave their scent, and deter your cat from coming back home. Alert vets and chip company and any local animal rescue groups in case she's handed in. Please just keep doing all the things you're doing and believe you'll find her. She's out there, somewhere, and needs you, now, more than ever, to guide her safely back home. I'm sending you lots of positive thoughts and prayers for her safe return home, very soon 🙏 🐈‍⬛ ❤️
