MISSING CAT: He answers to Newton, he’s an orange tabby cat with a white tipped tail and he’s wearing a spiked collar (black collar, silver spikes). He is 13 years old. Newton has been missing since the evening of July 24 around 7-8 PM on Deer Creek Lane in the Deerfield Hills Neighborhood of Elizabethtown, KY. This is very unusual for him as he always comes back . If you live in this area please open your grge doors and check any cameras you have 🙏🏻 We miss him very dearly and have been calling and walking around looking for him periodically since he didn’t turn up at our back door the next morning like he’s always done in the past. There is a reward for his safe return. If you find him or have any helpful information please call:

Here's tips for finding lost cats. If the cat was adopted from rescue, notify them immediately and ask if they can offer help and suggestions. If no one saw cat leave house, search thoroughly inside using flashlight to see eye reflection and open and check closets, cabinets, drawers, attics and bats - make sure he or she didn't get stuck in ceiling by pushing tiles open, or anywhere else. Also use information on sites for neon poster format (with Do Not Chase - Call with Sighting added), resource links, and pet detective services. If your cat is indoor only and spayed/neutered, he or she is probably hiding nearby and staying within 5-10 houses or if further, 5-10 blocks in either direction or less unless chased out of territory. Normally they hide first few days and then venture out at night or early morning for food when quieter. They usually find a specific place to access for shelter like in or under sheds, decks, porches, or garages, or by bushes establishing this as base to leave from looking for food and return to for safety. Inside only cats are usually more scared, hide longer, and stay closer to home. Conduct searches starting at home and expanding in circular radius from starting point to thoroughly check and cover areas. Repeat as necessary. Put supervised only trap with food in it in your yard or by last sighting dusk, evening, and dawn. Keep in mind setting 3 traps spaced out in triangle increases chances. Never leave trap set when no one is there. May be better not to leave food overnight to avoid attracting wildlife, etc. Make sure each trap is covered top and sides, supervised at all times, and checked often. Throw out food and close trap after each trapping session. Put 1/2 of dry food feeding and water out daily after 2nd or 3rd day and away from trap to keep in area. Put something that smells like you (worn socks) and cat (toy, bedding, etc.) in yard and smaller item(s) in trap or nearby - add catnip if likes it. Use www.pawboost.com it’s the best and comments on Facebook posts update on pawboost, www.petamberalert.com, www.helpinglostpets.com, and/or https://www.lostmykitty.com/ for poster and notification services to neighbors, vets, shelters, and rescues in area. Kimberley Freeman may still offer consultations www.lostcatfinder.com. Put up posters ASAP, and notify non-emergency police and animal control in surrounding area and bring posters for them to put up on bulletin board. Enlist daily help by giving posters to neighbors, joggers, walkers, dog walkers, public works, mailmen, and older children who are out regularly in area to keep eye out for your pet. Make sure to speak to and give posters to anyone feeding cats in your neighborhood. Leave garage, shed, or porch open for cat to access, when possible. In wintertime, put out shelter, igloo with straw etc. Use baby monitor to hear if crying during night, and you can purchase security camera and/or wildlife camera with IR night vision to monitor activity in yard and by feeding station. Ask neighbors if you can check yards, garages, porches, and in and under sheds and decks. Go at dusk, evening, and before dawn with a good flashlight to see reflecting eyes. Check trees, as well. Do not chase, or call unless you are in your yard or pet is in sight. Ask area rescues if they can assist with searches. Remember indoor only cats may hide first few days but venture out when hungry coming out of hiding when quiet so call only from yard during evening, middle of night, and dawn hours to keep in area. DO NOT CHASE! (Put this on all flyers!). If searching away from home, call very softly and listen for response. If hiding place is found, set supervised only and covered traps with permission in that area. In extreme hot or cold weather trap must be watched when set. Check www.petfinder.org for cats in rescue and shelter, and go to local shelters in person daily. If cat has microchip, call the company to report lost and ensure chip is registered and information is correct. Don't ever give up hope, keep searching, and update posts!

Call softly late night early morning when it quite out .. if there is any way you could leave your door slightly open and call after dark .. have a spot light to shine to see eyes in the dark .. they are usually close by and will often come back to the door .. or hide under bushes or decks to feel safe ! Also check crawl spaces under houses , garages, sheds of neighbors nearby ... check culvert pipes .. up trees .. and under car hoods and tires also ...this can happen and they could be miles from home . A set trap may be needed and monitored ! Trail cam help to monitor the areas ! Post to Nextdoor ... Check with area Shelters, Animal Control , and Vets offices also put flyers ... Am sure you have tried most all of these ! Don't give up !!

Missing Kitty tips: Get busy with these tips. Acting quickly is best. Important - If pet went missing from home, do these tips at your home. If pet went missing while away from home, return to the area pet was last seen. Then modify / use these tips at the site pet was last seen. - If kitty is an indoor cat it will typically stay in a 3 to 7 house radius of her home. - Indoor/outdoor cats can be up to 17 + houses away. - Kitty will hide during the day and only come out after dark between dusk and dawn. - Kitty may not come when called. - The majority of cats return home between 2 and 4 AM. - Go door to door and tell your neighbors and nearby businesses that your cat is missing, give them a description of kitty or share Kitty’s photo with them, and give them your ph number. photo and your ph number. The more eyes on the lookout for your kitty, the better. - Offer a reward if you are financially able to do so. -Place neon colored Lost posters / signs in your yard and in the neighborhood. List the reward on the Lost Cat signs. - Ask your neighbors to check in their sheds, garages and any vehicle or building that may have been open around the time kitty went missing. Kitty might have sought shelter there / hidden and then become trapped. - Also ask your neighbors if they have a ring doorbell or outside cameras. If so, they may have a photo or video of your kitty which will tell you what direction kitty was going. - Make a scent trail in your yard and on your porch with your unwashed laundry and sheets. Hang items over bushes and on your porch railing. Let trail lead to your front door, open garage or open window. Also out Kitty’s bed or blanket outside. - Leave an entry door or a window open that kitty can climb through. - Around 10PM warm rotisserie chicken or just chicken broth, put it outside. This is also a scent to lure kitty out of hiding and back home. Warming it makes scent travel further. - Throughout the night get up and go out side. Walk the 3 to 5 house radius and call softly, listen carefully. - Bring a flashlight or use the flashlight on your phone. Kitty’s eyes will reflect back at you. - Look both high (trees/rooftops) and low (under bushes or porch). Kitty could be stuck up in a tree or locked in a neighbor's garage. - A lady reported finding her cat recently. She set her alarm for 2 am, opened her front door, turned on her TV on low, placed an open can of cat food in the house near the door. Kitty came walking into the house. - One man set his alarm and got up every hour and another slept on the couch and heard the cat scratching at the door. - a lady who recently found her cat, sat outside overnight in a sleeping bag with a flashlight. She saw her cat walking right toward her in the early morning hours. Kitty came right to her! - Another tip is to use the warm chicken broth and make a trail of it from the street or yard up to the house. Even pour it in the bushes and trees where the wind can carry the smell. - your scent trail should always lead home. So start and end your walks at home. - Other people have used catnip to help lure their cat home. Alternatives to leaving a window or house door open. 1) open your garage door instead, even leaving it open just a few inches from the ground will do. Have a laundry trail go through the garage door opening and place some laundry in a comfy spot kitty can lay down. 2) sit outside overnight on your porch or in your driveway. Let the laundry trail lead to you while you sit outside. Have an open can of tempting wet cat food or canned tuna with you outside while you wait for kitty. You can also have cat nip or other delicious scented food with you. While outside sitting at night and on your walks, talk in a normal voice, or in the voice you use when you talk to your pets. Extra steps: If it’s in your budget, hire a pet tracker while pet’s scent trail is still fresh. And consider using a drone to search a large area. Yes, doing these tips requires some effort but to find a much loved pet, it’ll be worth it. These kitty finding tips have worked. Good luck and don’t give up! Let me know when you get your kitty back.
