Also get signs up and file a lost report with Animal Services/local shelter(s) or a similar organization under another name, and keep checking their listings. Litter can attract tomcats or other animals attracted to the scent. Your kitty could be close but these animals could scare him and then he might go further away to get out of danger. It's not recommended anymore for these reasons.

Talk to neighbours check garages, under bushes in sheds go out shaking treats or food and call softly..not gone to far..good luck
