Black and tan small maybe Dotson

Found this pup on stallings right across from ingles crossing the road. I followed him into the neighborhood directly beside ingles and rescued him. He is black and tan and he is and looks to be a Dotson/Chiuahua mix to me. The animal shelter says he is not chipped and is roughly 3 years old. he is malnourished but very calm and sweet demeanor.
