Message from Owner

I adopted her from the humane society about 7 years ago when she was very small. She has always been very adventurous, and managed to dig her way around the gate into the open space. I suspect she will eventually find her way to somebody's yard or garden, as she's a er for fresh greens!

You need to search your yard and neighborhood for her, she could be burrowing, but she's probably nesting, ask neighbors to check their yards, by the fences, in If She Is Lost OutsideAn outdoor turtle will look for security or a perfect nesting site. Search these specific areas:The Yard Perimeter: Check along fences, brick walls, and property borders. Turtles usually walk in a straight line until they hit a barrier, then they walk along it.Soft Dirt and Sand: Look in flower beds, garden plots, mulch piles, or patches of loose dirt. She may already be half-buried while digging her nest.Low Cover: Search under low-hanging bushes, tall grass, leaf piles, and underneath porches or decks.Sun Spots: In the morning, check open areas of grass where the morning sun hits first, as she will want to warm up.If She Is Lost Inside the HouseIndoor turtles look for dark, tight spaces that mimic a safe burrow. Search these places:Under and Behind Furniture: Look under couches, chairs, beds, and behind TV stands or dressers.Warm Areas: Check near appliances that give off heat, such as behind the refrigerator, near the water heater, or around clothes dryers.Closets and Clothes: Search inside open closets, piles of laundry, or behind curtains.Tight Squeezes: Look between bookcases and walls. If their s can fit, they will squeeze themselves in.Tips for Your SearchSearch at Dawn and Dusk: Turtles are most active during these cooler parts of the day.Listen Closely: Turn off TVs and radios. Listen for the sound of a s scratching against baseboards, rustling leaves, or sc under furniture.Set a Trap: Place a shallow bowl of water and her favorite smelly food (like earthworms, strawberries, or shrimp) in the middle of the room or yard to lure her out.
