We just moved to Southwood Cliff Drive a few weeks ago and somehow Stormie snuck out on us. We haven’t been able to find her.

Stormie has returned home! I would remove my post but I can’t figure out how to do that. 🤦‍♂️

If normally an indoor cat, then kitty is likely hiding real close to home. They tend to freeze in place and may not come out if you call their name. Use a flashlight to look in, under, behind all dark spaces so that their eyes glow. You can do this during the day, but especially at night when things are quieter. Check inside the house as well just in case. Look up in trees in case kitty climbed up to escape another animal. Put some of your dirty laundry and the cat’s bedding outside for the scent. Leave a door cracked open so they can get back inside. Set up trail cameras outside and use a humane trap that you can buy at a hardware store or borrow from a rescue. Ask neighbors to check garages and sheds. Hang LOST signs in your area. Post on Nextdoor app, Ring app, area facebook pages, and lost and found facebook pages. Make sure microchip information is accurate. Check local animal shelters in person.

Check thoroughly inside first: behind appliances (washing machine), inside fireplaces/chimneys, closets, drawers, cupboards, under/inside furniture (they can climb inside), attic, crawlspaces. • Don’t put out a litter box. Instead, put a dirty t-shirt or worn shoes outside (familiar scent, won’t attract other animals). • Leave a box with a blanket/shirt outside your door so they have a safe hiding spot if they return. • Leave a door/window open overnight (especially where they escaped) + small food trail. • Crack your garage door overnight—cats often return late at night/early morning. • Put out wet food for short periods only (while monitoring). • Consider a humane trap (local shelters/rescues can help). • Post on Nextdoor + other local FB groups. • Tell your mail carrier and neighbors (ask them to check sheds, garages, porches, hedges). • Knock on doors + leave flyers if no one answers. • Put up printed flyers with photo + contact info (in a plastic page protector if it’s raining) • Go out at night with a flashlight (eyes will glow under cars, bushes, porches). • Bring treats and call softly. • Contact your microchip company and update info ASAP. • Visit shelters in person (don’t rely only on calls). Local shelters to contact: • Rescue One: (417) 862-9288 • Watching Over Whiskers: (417) 831-2662 Springfield Animal Control: (417) 833-3592 • Humane Society of Southwest Missouri: (417) 833-2526 Most cats are found within a few houses—don’t give up ❤️
