Common Types of Lost Pet Owners Type 1: THE PASSIVE OWNER ▪️Typical level of search effort: Low. ▪️Passive owners tend to wait. Example: "My dog got out. Let me know if you see it." This type of owner: Does very little to look for their pet. Low sense of urgency. Expects the dog to return home or someone else to bring the dog back. Let’s the community do the work instead of organizing a search. Provides little or no useful information. May post once or twice a day, then stops posting after 2–3 days if the dog hasn't returned. May not follow up on sightings or recommendations. Slow to respond or no response in the comment section. Type 2: THE PANICKED OWNER Typical level of search effort: Emotional, low organization. ▪️Panicked owners care deeply but need direction. Some are teachable and will quickly change course with instruction. Others will continue with what eases their feelings, even if the tactics are not effective. Oftentimes have anxiety. Example: "My dog is missing! Please help! I'm freaking out!" This type of owner: Likely overwhelmed Emotional panic rather than strategic execution. Forgot to include the location. Forgot to include a picture. Forgot contact information. Doesn't know where to start. Loses valuable time during the critical first 24–72 hours because every decision is made in panic/ fight or flight. Type 3: THE ORGANIZED RECOVERY OWNER Typical level of search effort: Very high. Logical, organized, prioritizes which methods are first and quickly executes search tactics. ▪️Organized owners immediately shift into problem-solving mode and throw every available resource at recovering their pet. These owners operate much like law enforcement and search and rescue teams. Example: They have a large clear photo of their pet Reward $200 Lost Shih Tzu 75th Ave & Union Hills Phoenix 2-year-old male Red collar Microchipped Neutered Friendly Last seen at 3:15 PM June 1st 2026. Missing 24 hours What we have done: Nextdoor Ring Neighbors Petco Love Lost PawBoost Multiple Facebook groups Flyers up Please call or text 24/7 immediately with any sighting: (Phone Number) This type of owner: Organized from the start Understands that time matters. Has already started a coordinated recovery effort. Makes it easy for strangers to help. Responds quickly to sightings. Continues posting updates. Will usually print flyers, expand the search radius, and keep searching until there's an outcome. Uses every available resource instead of waiting for the phone to ring. Some owners start off as type 2 and move into type 3 as the search continues.

You gotta go hard on day one and two for quick return! Next door, neighbors by ring not the ring app. Reward/Location are the first things in your post THEN description of your dog breed color size boy or girl friendly or skittish contact phone number. Super super key for quick results- comment on your post every 20 to 30 minutes the first day. You've got to radically shake the tree to get the word out that you're looking for your dog on day one and two. Very important. If you don't it becomes a nightmare that goes on for days and weeks.

Still can't find your pet? 1. Have you posted 👉👉three times a day on next door AND Neighbors by ring? (NOT THE RING APP) 👉👉 Have you commented on your post two or three times to get it going? 👉👉 Have you continued to comment for a few days so everyone in your neighborhood to see it? Or did you just post and move on to post somewhere else? 2. Did you put a reward in the first sentence? 👉👉👉With the amount? 3. Did you put a reward AND your phone number plus ONE BIG CLEAR picture of your pet on all the garages on your street? And the one behind your house? If that didn't work... 4. Did you call all the veterinarians within 10 miles of you to see if A PET MATCHING YOUR PETS DESCRIPTION was brought in injured or deceased hit by a car? 5. Did you call the local police department and ask for dispatch and see if anyone reported a deceased pet matching yours description for dead animal pickup? 6. Did you crop everything out of the picture but your pet and put it on Petco love lost?

🐾 Here are a few things to try if you've found a lost pet in Arizona. The NEIGHBORS by Ring app is amazing! 🎉 It has an impressive success rate, helping reunite about 70% of lost pets with their owners—often within hours. Ring and NEIGHBORS by Ring are two different apps, and you do NOT need a Ring device to use NEIGHBORS. It only takes about 5 minutes to download the app and create a post, making it one of the fastest and most effective ways to help reunite a lost pet with its family.🎉 To quickly reach many people within a three mile radius: ▪️ Post the found pet on NEIGHBORS by Ring. ▪️ Also post on Nextdoor ▪️ Make simple flyers using a piece of paper and a Sharpie. Packing tape works great for hanging them up. ▪️ Place 4–8 flyers at the major intersections closest to where the pet was found. ▪️ Put a box in your front yard and write FOUND DOG or FOUND CAT in big letters so if the owners are driving the neighborhood, hopefully they will see it.🥰 ▪️ Your flyers don't have to be fancy. Just write: FOUND DOG/CAT BREED SIZE COLOR YOUR PHONE NUMBER THAT'S IT! ▪️ Take the pet to any veterinary clinic and have them scanned for a microchip. It's free. ▪️ Don't assume the pet was abandoned. Their family may be desperately searching for them. ❤️ Every post, flyer, and microchip scan increases the chances of a happy reunion. This is called a scent trail and will hopefully bring him home. Leave your garage door open a few inches so he can come in. Go out in the evening and before the sunrise and shake her/his favorite treats and search with a flashlight in cozy dark areas. Many cats get stuck somewhere so make sure you check your home and yard very thoroughly. Leave something out you have worn; not washed. Leave out a favorite pet toy Leave bowl of water Take Flashlight with you light picks up eyes in dark SHARING.
