🚨🚨🚨 Important Tips🚨🚨🚨 When searching for your missing dog‼️ Have some nice smelly food, leash or slip lead, squeak toy (if they like them) or a ball. (If your dog isn’t wearing a collar, you can turn your leash into a slip lead by slipping the end of the leash thru the hand loop) You’ll want to start your search at parks, any wooded areas and the closest water source, creeks, streams, ponds, Also rr tracks or power lines, these are referred to as the doggy highways. Most importantly... DON’T YELL THEIR NAME‼️ This is very important because they’ll think they’re in trouble and may run and hide. Dogs have an incredible sense of hearing and smelling. Softly and calmly talk his/her name, use baby talk, use their nickname if they have one. If you see them, remain calm and try and not to get overly excited (all tho that’s only natural) the calmer you stay, increases your dog coming to you. They feed off your energy. When you see your dog, you’ll want to sit on the ground and get their attention by using baby talk, a soft whistle, squeak toy, crinkling of a bag, or even pretend you're eating something yummy. Slowly toss food in their direction bringing it closer and closer, until they’re close enough to get their leash on. (In the beginning it’s more of a game of catch me if you can, to your dog) If they have a dog they are bonded with, bring that dog out when searching, if you see your dog, ignore them and start playing with the other dog (the missing dog will get jealous and come out and play too) or If they haven’t been out too long, you can even toss a ball or toy and see if you can engage them in play. It’s important that you don’t have strangers or large groups of people out searching, it’s best that the people who are looking are family. (You can however have people search in cars, but no foot searches if the dog is not familiar with that person). You’ll want to get flyers made and hung up in the area your pup is missing from for sightings, if no sightings come in, you’ll want to expand the flyers. Most sightings come in from someone seeing your flyer. Contact your local Dog Control & Non Emergency Police to inform them your dog is missing, this way if someone has found your dog, they’ll have owner information. You’ll want to check shelters in person , not every person answering the phone knows what strays have been brought in. I’d also contact neighboring Animal Control and Non Emergency Police, as dogs like to travel and can travel several miles a day. So the most important things are, have food, keep search parties small, don’t yell or chase your dog, remain calm and inform the proper authorities. Leave articles of clothing with your scent and your dogs scent around your home (i.e. worn clothes, sheets slept in, dogs bed or blankets, also leave food and water out on your porch or deck) If you have a gated yard, leave the gate open so your dog can come inside, if you have an electric fence turn it off so the dog can re-enter the property, or if you have a garage or shed, leave the door open enough from them to get inside. If your dogs been out for a few days the possibility of them entering into survival mode increases. When they’re in survival mode, the best and safest way to get your pup back is by contacting a trapping group that can come out and assist you in getting your dog home safely. Hope you find your pup ASAP 🙏🏻🐾♥️
