Once an indoor (or outdoor) cat is lost they will hunker down and stay hidden. He is hopefully still close by and staying hunkered down. The best times to look for him are late at night and early morning hours when it’s dark and quiet outside. Only one or two people looking and no small children. The main thing is calmness and soft voices when looking for him. Take a flashlight and gently call for him and watch for his eye shine. You can also gently shake a bag of cat food or treats if he knows that sound. Check in trees, on rooftops, fencetops, under bushes, cars, porches, decks, check your garage really well and any sheds or outbuildings and especially ask your neighbors to do the same. He may be stuck in someone's shed or garage. If safe to do so, leave a door/garage door/window cracked open so he can get back inside during the night. I've heard of a number of cats that just come back in on their own if the door is cracked open for them. You can put a scent item outside that he will recognize but another cat or predator won’t (blanket, cat bed, clothing). Litter boxes and food can attract coyotes and other cats so don't put those out. They will keep your kitty away. Report him as missing at your local Humane Society and/or Animal Control and go there often to look for him. Also report him as missing on the Lost My Kitty website. They can help contact local vets and rescue agencies for you. These tips are good for indoor/outdoor cats too. Best wishes on finding your kitty. ❤️

It takes a certain kind of person to see a family dealing with a missing pet and decide that’s the moment to criticize. If you have useful information, share it. If not, keep scrolling 😘

Too bad they didn’t keep the cat inside making sure every day every time they want to roam around so they couldn’t get out of the house unless they had they’re human to make sure. It’s enough already, but these cats don’t need to be lost because of a human not making that safe for the cats.

Hi everyone! Thank you for your comments and suggestions. Replying all for visibility. My daughter let Max out of the house on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, after returning home from school (around 4:00p). We live off of 110th in the Meadowbrook neighbor of Seattle by Nathan Hale High School/Jane Addams Middle School. I’ve searched the immediate areas surrounding our house and the schools. He would normally hang out in the cul de sac behind our backyard. I’ve looked through bushes, under cars, under people’s decks, but haven’t found anything, including any remnants of his harness or tag. We had really windy weather and rain the night he disappeared. I thought he maybe sought shelter for the night… and then the snow came. I’ve checked in with his chip company and nearby vet clinics and shelters. Nothing. Next up is postering the neighborhood. I would literally do anything to have Max back. I’ve already contacted Three Retrievers lost pet rescue and haven’t heard back. All neighbors are aware. I’ve been SHOCKED by the number of messages I have received from people claiming to have Max, sending an AI generated image, and then requested money for his safe return. WHYYYYYYY 😭😭😭😭. I’m feeling very sad and vulnerable, but appreciate the support. Please don’t comment with anything negative, including “this is why cats belong indoors.” It doesn’t help. Feel free to direct message me with any questions or text me at 908 370-7183. Also, if people have ring cameras (or similar technology) that might pick up a wandering cat, please check your footage from the last 2 few weeks. Thanks!

Post on Nextdoor and Ring apps. Ask neighbors to check car hoods, garages and sheds immediately. Make sure to tap hoods of the car around. Keep an entryway open for cat to get in. Buy or loan a live cat trap from online stores or local tnr groups. Leave your garage open with cat to enter. Put some food and your clothing there for smell. Get a motion sensor camera to detect when cat is around your property

Nancy Derilo Max is most likely trapped/stuck somewhere (or could be injured and hiding). Talk with as many neighbors as possible to see if he’s in a garage, shed, crawlspace, entangled in brambles, under a low deck or woodpile, been chased up a tree, got into their dog door so is in their house. Frequently check all these areas all around your property with a strong flashlight. Post sturdy rainproof photo flyers at mailbox groupings around your neighborhood (and surrounding neighborhoods in case he’s been chased out of his normal territory and can’t get home). Don’t assume he’s been taken by a predator and therefore stop actively looking for him, but when you do find him, please, please keep him safely indoors-only going forward . There are far too many outdoor dangers to let one’s beloved cats roam: coyotes, bobcats, & birds of prey are abundant in your area & easily take cats & sm dogs both day & night, cars can injure or cats, cats can die from eating mice poisoned by exterminator bait traps, cats can bring fleas & live or dead baby animals into the house , they can be found by someone & kept, cruel people can hurt them, & much more. Since he’s microchipped, ensure chip is registered in your name, your contact info is up to date, & you’ve notified chip registration company he’s missing. Have you filed an online Lost Cat reported with Seattle Animal Shelter & looked through their Found cat postings? If found, that’s where he’d be reported to or taken to.
