Spotted Bengal cat roaming around Thurman White Middle School and Whitney Ranch Rec Center around 7:10am on 08/13. Was trying to see if it would approach but got scared by kids trying to run up to it.

Michele Trul you're welcome. It's sad and unfortunate, but I have to follow the laws and try not to piss the owners of the cats off. That's why I share the found hybrids on my rescue wall and the lost one's on my rescue wall to help the owners make the matches easier. If the owner contacts me for help and gives me permission, that's when I go help.

Michele Trul for the City of Las Vegas, LVMC 7.32.180 says a person who traps an animal cannot simply dispose of it however they want. They must contact Animal Protection Services, deliver it to the Animal Protection Services Center, or otherwise handle it as directed by an Animal Protection Services Officer. Violating that provision is a misdemeanor. Clark County changed its laws and now it says “all pets, except for cats, must be restrained.” A loose cat is therefore not violating the restraint rule. I now have to go about it in a different way to keep owners from getting pissed off at me, and trying to take me to court for grand larsony over trapping their cat. If their cat gets hurt in the trap from thrashing around trying to get away, I'm stuck paying all of those vet bills because it would've never happened if I wasn't trying to trap it. Especially if it's a few roaming cat and not lost. And if the cat gets lost due to trying to trap it, that's also the trapped responsibility for messing with someone's pet. There is no Nevada nor Clark County law that gives a private rescue a blanket legal right to seize an apparently owned cat simply because it is outdoors. Hybrids aren't wild cats born in the wild, they are specifically from breeder's bought and owned by people. Clark County specifically says cats may free-roam, and that a loose cat is not a violation anymore, therefore it's best to match up and locate the owners of these cats and get permission to help trap their baby to get it back home safely. That way they can sign waivers releasing me off all legal liability and that they understand that there's a chance their cat could get hurt in a humane trap and they do not hold me responsible for something I cannot control. Plus, if their are predators around the trap right after they are trapped, and something happens to them from said predator, they may not have happened if they aren't trapped in a trap like a sitting duck, the person trapping is responsible for a very expensive cat. There's a lot to this and I've been dealing with it a lot lately. And I work with the rangers, Animal control, NDOW, BLM, Game Wardens, all when needed. There's more to it than you think.

Michele Trul I just went through this and dealt with Animal Control over it. If their cat is free roaming and you trap it, that's theft. There's laws protecting the free roaming cats. If the cat is causing damage and a nuisance, you can trap and take it to The Animal Foundation for them to deal with it. If the cat looks sick, distressed, hurt, starving and abandoned, you can trap to take to the vet's office to be scanned so they can contact the owners. That's what I was told. That's why I've been trying to be careful when trapping these cats posted as found. I try to find the owners first to get their permission to trap their cat for them, if it's truly lost. I've been threatened with court too many times now from people claiming I'm stealing their cats when I'm just trying to help get them home safely.

Charlie M. Yaney-Johnston wrong . Anyone can go trap a cat running loose. I didn't see who I was responding to. I'm surprised it was you. It could get run over and the coyotes.
