Call all local Vets also animal rescues and RSPCA as well as any local pet stores. Make sure that your animals are microchipped and all of your details are up to date. You can update your pets microchip details online or by phone with their particular microchip company or at any Vet clinic. Check your whole home and yard firstly. Some people put out fresh sardines, warm roast chicken meat or whatever is the cats or dogs favourite food is and you could also put out some catnip out for cats as well. The smells of their favourite foods could very well lure them out of hiding or back home if nearby. Door knock the area and the neighbourhood where they went missing and put out flyers. If you've just moved areas, when your pet went missing, you may well have to also check your old neighbourhood as well in case they've tried to return there. Ask neighbours and people in your immediate area to check their security cameras for any sightings of your pet. If you are worried your pet may have been stolen dont delay in making a Police report. Post on other lost pet pages and all local community pages as well. Actively keep looking for your pet daily.

“Research by “Missing Animal Response Network” (MARN): A study was conducted by the University of Queensland where 1,232 cat owners who’d lost a cat took part (Kat Albrecht and Dr. Jacquie Rand conceived the study and UOQ and MPP collaborated on the study). Here is a summary of results: • The method most successful in recovering a missing cat was conducting a thorough physical search of the area. • The median distance found (how far the cats travelled) for missing outdoor-access cats was 315m. This is roughly a 17-house radius from their home. • The median distance for escaped indoor-only cats was much less—it was only 50m which is roughly a 2-3 house radius from their home. Obtaining permission from your neighbours to search their property is critical! Simply handing them a flyer and asking them to “keep an eye out” IS NOT ENOUGH! Your neighbour won’t get down on hands and knees with a torch to look under their deck or house, yet that is where your cat is most likely to be! It is up to you the owner, to conduct a slow, methodical search, remembering wherever their head can fit they could be hiding! Be sure to take a good flashlight with you even during the day as eye shine often gives them away in dark places. Additional Lost Cat Behaviors The Silence Factor: This is a term to describe lost cat behavior when a displaced cat will hide in silence. It is a natural form of protection. They will not answer to your calls. The Silence Factor s many cats that may be sick or injured and hiding, as owners are typically busy “looking” for their cat at the local shelter or putting flyers on telephone poles. Instead they should be conducting an aggressive, physical search of the immediate area remembering the cat is likely to be close by but hiding in silence. The Threshold Factor: This is an interesting behavioral pattern where a cat that is hiding eventually breaks cover and meows, return to their home or finally enters a humane trap. While some cats take hours to a few days to reach their threshold, many take several days (typically 10 to 12 days) before they break cover, most likely due to starvation and thirst, although more research needs to be conducted into this. ⚠️Myths for finding lost cats: • The MAR Network does NOT recommend using kitty litter placed outside your home as the urine/faeces scent could attract aggressive cats into the yard a missing cat may be hiding. When an indoor-only cat escapes, it is often hiding within the territory of another (outside) cat. Dirty cat litter can attract community “toms” (intact males)-and predispose them to want to defend their territory and draw them into an area the displaced cat may be hiding. The territorial cat may then “beat-up” and chase your cat making recovery harder. • “(MARN)” do not advise posting a reward. While it can attract attention, it also attracts scammers, and can encourage untrained individuals to chase your cat, potentially scaring it down a drain, across a busy road or into a yard with dogs. Pets are found through the efforts of dedicated individuals without any financial incentive. **For full article please search: “Missing Animal Response Network - Lost Cat Behaviour” **NB: Most people joining lost & found pet groups do so because they, like you, have lost or found an animal, but often don’t live nearby. Posting in your suburbs local community based groups gives u a better chance. Groups such as: buy/swap/sell, parent, hobby, friendship/singles, neighbourhood watch and local news groups. These groups often have high volumes of members in your area and where someone is more likely to spot your pet going about daily routines. ⚠️UPDATE MICROCHIP INFO To find out which microchip database your pets information is stored with after the recent HomeSafe Id. closure debacle, - Simply type your pets microchip number into the search tab on “pet address” dot com. au and follow the prompts to make sure your details are current and up to date. This should be the first thing you do in your search. Also be sure to mark the microchip as “missing” as this will immediately alert any vet or rescue the cat may be handed in to. If you don’t know your pets microchip number contact a veterinary clinic you’ve visited previously and they should be able to tell you from their records. Alternatively you can have your pet scanned at any vet clinic, pound or rescue free. ⚠️If you’re in QLD: Share your missing post to Cat Alert QLD — a group dedicated to lost cat listings in South East Qld. (Remember to “bump” your post regularly). I also recommend checking Found-A-Cat QLD regularly to see a list of cats that have been sighted, taken to the pound/vet, or found deceased in SEQ. I try to post as often as I can. I hope this has helped.. Wishing that you find your loved one soon💟🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛💟”
