Amy Leerae Brown I agree with you. The original poster should clarify that after the cat was lost, someone found it, brought it to the humane society, and it was then adopted. I suspect that the OP is deliberately not including that info in the original post as people would likely stop sharing if they knew the circumstances. It's unfortunate that the cat got out/was lost but the new family would have no obligation to give the cat back to the OP.

You should clarify in the original post that your cat was found without a chip, and adopted to a new family from the AHS. People seem to think that’s where you initially got him from, and that’s how your post reads. People are also giving search advice that isn’t relevant because they think this cat is out on the street.

….the cat was not chipped with his original owner. He had a collar, which had gotten off somehow. He got out, taken to the humane society, and was adopted out since then. It says elsewhere in this thread he had a collar. No mention of a chip. This original post should be clarified. Everyone thinks this cat is out lost somewhere; it was adopted out to a new family. Everyone also thinks they can get the cat back, which at this point isn’t the case. Even if the family who has him is found, I don’t think they’re obligated to give it back. Chip your pets in the first place. They didn’t do that, or this cat would have been scanned and returned.
