Message from Owner

Hello everyone, Thank you all for the kind words and support during the search for Gator. Our sincerest hope is that he simply found a new home and is being spoiled rotten into his old age. Yesterday evening, our other cat, Maverick, also disappeared. Since Gator went missing, we have been keeping her inside overnight, typically from 10:00 p.m. until 10:00 a.m. Based on what we know, I believe she disappeared sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Maverick has never missed treat or feeding time in the morning. The fact that she has not returned for either leads me to believe something happened to her. She stayed much closer to home than gator did. After reading posts on Facebook, Nextdoor and speaking with many of you, I believe there are two possible explanations. The first, and what I believe is the more likely scenario, is that one or more coyotes have moved into the area. I plan to contact several licensed wildlife management companies this afternoon to discuss trapping and removal. If you would be willing to allow a licensed trapper to place a trap on your property, please send me a text message at. I will coordinate the details via email. The second possibility is much more concerning. Someone may be intentionally taking and “rehoming” neighborhood pets. If that is the case, I am offering a $1,000 reward for credible information identifying the individual responsible. Definitive proof will be required. No questions asked. I have not lived here as long as some of you, but in the nearly ten years I have been here, I do not remember this ever being such a significant issue. If you have recently seen coyotes, heard them, captured them on a security camera, or had a pet go missing, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Reporting a sighting or the loss of a pet does not obligate you to volunteer your property for trap placement. It simply helps establish a clearer picture of what may be happening in our neighborhood. Even small pieces of information may prove valuable. There is a tremendous amount of pedestrian traffic throughout our neighborhood at all hours of the day and night. If you see something, please say something. Whether it is a coyote sighting, suspicious activity, or security camera footage that may help, I would appreciate the data to help identify the threat. Thank you again for all of your support.

Deborah Nash Correct about not relocating coyotes. Occasionally under certain circumstances coyotes will be taken to a Sanctuary area or a licensed wildlife rehab place. Concerns about coyotes should contact FWC.

They will not relocate coyotes! And if they did, more would come take their places. There are also Bobcats and foxes. So many outside cats are disappearing everywhere! It's heartbreaking 💔 😢. PLEASE keep your cats inside, day and night.

Cook chicken on the grill. Put catnip outside. Play YouTube videos of kittens crying and shine a laser cat toy around the bushes.

Coyotes have been seen in the area. Also FWC has a coyote alert for Brevard county- they urge to keep cats in at All times, have dogs on a short leash under supervision when outside, do not leave pet food outside and keep garbage secured. Coyotes are most active dusk to dawn, have a 5 mile roaming territory, can jump 6 foot fences, and are opportunistic hunters. Due to developments being built in former wetlands and further into rural woodland areas, Coyotes have been pushed out of their habitat and now seen in suburban and inner city areas here, including the beaches, golf courses, airports, etc. If you have a lost or missing cat, stay vigilant looking for them as they may be in survival mode- scared and hiding or possibly accidentally stuck in someone's garage or shed, or at someone's home who took them in thinking they were a stray. Cats can wander as far as 10 houses away or be a street over frim yours- they don't always wander a straight line down. Some have been found in an adjoining neighborhoods. Be sure to check in person for your kitty at the BCSO County shelter at West Eau Gallie blvd and get posters up & fliers out to neighbors and check any fields or woods nearby.
