Jess Vee, do you know who ate the food at the door? Is there a way to monitor the activity overnight? If Kyle is too scared to approach the house you'll need to meet him where he is. That's accomplished by identifying a place where he feels comfortable emerging at night for food. Do your nearby neighbors have a photo of Kyle and have you asked if he's been seen on security cameras at night, or if anyone in the area feeds cats outside? He will only go as far as necessary to find a safe and consistent source of food. BEGINNING TONIGHT refresh the familiar item (blanket or worn clothing laid flat on the doorstep — NOT a litter box or anything obvious) to give Kyle the confidence to come out of hiding, and now place tempting food at his point of escape and in various safe and quiet locations at dusk (choose places where Kyle will feel comfortable eating -- close to a foundation, under shrubs, inside a porch, shed or garage with the door cracked open, etc. — a frightened cat is more concerned with safety than food). Kyle's instinct will be to come out after dark to eat and once you know where, you can get him back inside. Please see my complete instructions (click on the link to the PDF, below) and tell me if you have any questions. Hang in there and let me know how it goes. https://www.dropbox.com/s/e63sos0yc7znlej/EscapedCat.pdf?dl=0&fbclid=IwAR1x5gw2G_RoxuSs2vJQ9ym-6PIC-5u10U5UPUO6IRaBaIRT40A_mozvkX4

Jess Vee, but you have food at the door for Kyle, correct? You're doing great feeding neighborhood cats away from the house to keep them from Kyle's path home, but you also need food at the door for Kyle to calm hm and hold his attention so you'll se him there and have the opportunity to open the door to let him inside. If the food at the door is eaten, that could be Kyle. Do you have a camera to set at the door where Kyle escaped and/or have you set everything up at dusk (before 8pm) and watched for him to return up until bedtime?

Diana Ellis I have searched and posted flyers everywhere. My neighbors are aware and said they would keep an eye out for him. And yes the food was eaten but my neighborhood has a few outdoor cats so I’ve seen them eating the food and I place it far enough so it doesn’t obstruct Kyle’s path back home.

Jess Vee, was the food eaten overnight? Have you seen any other activity outside after dark? Have you searched silently as I described during the daytime and do your immediate neighbors know Kyle is missing? Have you asked if he's been seen on security cameras at night? Do any close neighbors (or you) have raised foundations or sheds where he may have hidden and become stuck? The window of opportunity is closing for Kyle to come back on his own so if we can figure out what's keeping him in hiding, you may still have success without having to implement a more comprehensive strategy.

Jess Vee, if the only thing outside to deter Kyle was another cat approaching the door, tonight place food out in the open and away from the house (at the perimeter of your property) to keep that kitty satisfied and occupied and away from Kyle's path home. If the coast is clear and he feels it's safe to return, your little guy should make his way home. Please keep me updated.

Diana Ellis nothing was obstructing his path but yes another cat from the neighborhood ate the food.
