Nextdoor Experiment - Hashtagging Lost & Found Animal Posts With the number of dogs and cats that are being lost and found, it's almost impossible to match up the found ones with the lost ones' owners. As an experiment, let's try a hashtag system. The Nextdoor search system at the top of the home screen recognizes hashtags and will search for them successfully. So, if you post a lost dog, please put #LostDog at the beginning or end of your post. If you post a lost cat, put #LostCat. If you find a dog or a cat, put #FoundDog or #FoundCat. To search for hashtags in the Nextdoor Search bar, just type in the appropriate hashtag and tap the search icon or the return key on your keyboard. Once the search is completed, tap the "Posts" tab at the top of the screen. This will filter the results to show only Posts. Then scroll through the list. If you've lost an animal, search for #FoundDog or #FoundCat If you've found an animal, search for #LostDog or #LostCat Also, if you posted a lost pet and was later reunited with them, please either delete the original post or edit the post and place the hashtag #reunited at the very top of the post's content (at the very beginning of the post). To edit a post or comment, tap on the three dots in the upper right and select 'Edit' from the pop-up menu. Not everyone will read this post, so those of you who do, please spread the word and let's make this work. Hope this helps!

Go around late at night calling them with food and flashlight to catch their eyes. Check around your neighborhood under houses and in small places where they may hide. Put stuff out that has yours and their scent on it. Mainly their litter box and sprinkle their used litter around the yard as they'll recognize the smell and it'll deter other animals from coming around. Hang flyers around for people to see. Check shelters and vets daily. Update chip info if they have a chip and its has not been update since a move. Ask neighbors to check in their garages incase they ended up trapped in one and to check their cameras in case they appeared on them to get a sense of direction they could be. I pray you get your baby back safe and soon.

Kyle is a beautiful mackerel orange (ginger) tabby and white cat — I’m sorry he is lost. Is Kyle an escaped indoor cat or allowed outside? His familiarity with the environment will dictate how to find him. Escaped indoor cats usually hide close by but are too frightened to return or respond when called; while a cat that knows his way around may have become stuck somewhere and needs help getting home. I have recovered many lost cats and assisted others so if you tell me about Kyle I can provide complete instructions that may help. Please understand an escaped cat may emerge when it's dark and quiet to sneak back inside — if you do just the right things. This usually happens within the first few nights so until I hear back from you please implement this strategy if Kyle got out accidentally: tonight lay a familiar blanket or worn teeshirt flat on the doorstep — do not use a litter box, bed, trap, or anything conspicuous -- along with tempting food at his point of escape. Call him softly to provide a familiar sound and direction (he won't come on command) then watch from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!) and if you see Kyle approach and settle on the food be careful not to startle him. Slowly and quietly provide a clear path inside and he may put an end to the crisis himself. If you can't wait up set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time. And although some will suggest putting out kitty's litter box, experts say DON’T DO IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Please read this to learn more about why it's neither necessary nor recommended: https://www.facebook.com/notes/lost-cats-georgia/why-we-dont-recommend-putting-your-lost-cats-litter-box-outside/1101245526665296/

Please go walking through the neighborhood calling your kitty’s name and shaking his/her bag of food or bag of treats and use a laser toy to lure your kitty out to chase the laser pointer. Use a flashlight at night. Look under cars, by bushes and any other place where he/she can be hiding. If possible leave your garage and lanai door partially open. Your cat will try to get back inside, especially during time when it is dark outside. The only way to find the way home again is by smell. Use some of your used clothes, put them outside along with his/her bed and litter box but ***ONLY*** if you are keeping an eye on the litter box because it can attract predators. Go in person to the local shelter to check if your cat is there. Call your cat’s microchip company to report him/her missing. Post on Facebook Lost and Found Pets groups of your area. Check on Petco LoveLost website https://petcolove.org/lost/ There are many lost and found cats on that website. Post on Neighbors by Ring App. Its free and you don’t have to have a Ring Doorbell to get the app. There are Apple and Android versions of the app 🙏🏼 Post also on Nextdoor app Prayers for your baby’s safe return 🥺🙏🏽

You can purchase a trap from Tractor Supply or Home Depot or Amazon or see if you can borrow or rent one from a local rescue or TNR group. Put a piece of your clothing with your scent on it inside and some wet food and set the trap and cover it with a towel (they feel more secure hidden) and monitor it.🙏❣️ remember kitties are naturally nocturnal, so they will hide during the day and move at night time looking for a food source or trying to get home. This is when most of us are sleeping. That's why the trap is ideal. Monitor the trap. If you catch a critter go ahead and release it and wash the trap and reset. They leave a smell behind which may deter your baby from going in. If you catch another kitty, you can always take it to a local vet or shelter for a free chip check and you might be able to help return someone else's missing baby home.♥️ also get a big sign in the front yard so in case someone does have or sees this baby and does not see this post, they can contact the owner that way. Also get lots of signs posted in the neighborhood. Keep checking on your local county FB group pages. You can search the group by "cat" to see all the cat posts only💗

The only way a lost cat can find its way home is with its nose. They have to use their sense of smell to get home again. Put anything outside that smells like their territory. Put the pajamas you slept in outside because you probably sweated in them. Put out their food your stinky socks your smelly sneakers anything you can think of that the cat will recognize by smell. Cats usually stay within a five house radius of their own home for up to a week or so sleeping in the bushes during the day and coming out at dusk and dawn. Those are good times to take a walk shaking the treat bag calling out but cats also tend to come out and walk around very late at night. Try to keep a door cracked if you can whether it's the garage or whatever or a window cracked so you can hear them if they call out for you. Put this on all of the neighborhood pages as well as lost and found pets sites. Knock on the neighbors doors and make sure they know you're looking for your cat. Good luck PS cats can smell up to one mile away from their own house. Absolutely no litterbox outside or food. It attracts predators is why. Never give up.
