some observations on this little dog so far...I think he had a person...I'll explain... when I brought him home I put him in an old crate from previous dogs for the night (with water and noms), fully expecting to wake up to a fully pee and poo covered dog and crate....around seven hours later Tobie was howling a bit so I went to let him out expecting ick....he immediately went to the grass and did what he needed. Crate was clean. That's the only time he has howled or barked all day. I think he was saying "I need to potty" I took him to Petsmart to see if he had a chip...he did not....but they were having an adoption event and he went and sniffed every pup and kitty in there and was just calm and tail waggin the whole time both at Petsmart and during a walk around the neighborhood there was never tension on the leash unless he suddenly stopped to sniff or do business.....he was at my side, slack lead the whole time...met a neighbor dog of similar size. I told them that I had just brought him home, wasn't sure....but again, right at my side, little forward, sniffing...but never they brought their dog over....they sniffed....tails wagged...sniffed more...and after a minute both just...moved on.... Son went to hang out with him, he didn't chase a thrown ball but was interested, probably a bit nervous in a new environment...understandable, but oddly very drawn to me and wants uppies every time I step outside...maybe never been around kids. Son played with some yard toys (tee ball) while Tobie sat nearby and he was definitely interested, watching veeeeeery closely, but wasn't ready to join. he's not emaciated at all, he's got really good body tone for his size dog, doesn't eat voraciously or food guard in the slightest bit. before i went and bought kibble I gave him some hot dogs...he took it soooooo gently from my hand....this dog has been with a human, and fairly missing posters where he was found and no one has come looking according to staff and regulars (and yes we are all keeping eye microchip...please chip your pets...I'm choosing to believe he is a Houdini and not a dump....he's too sweet...which brings me to... his temperament....this dog is the size of Wishbone (#iykyk and if you don't, look it up OHMYGAAAAWD) and was lost alone in a parking lot at nearly midnight. But he cane straight up to a human and just wanted a cuddle. Allowed a strange human to pick him up and then just...settled himself in. He howled, not all night out of fear as you would expect, but seemingly to let someone know he needed potty and knew he wasn't supposed to do it there....every time a human has gone outside today he has been happy and trying to get in laps and arms...he didn't like having water poured on him (I was trying to keep him cool since I couldn't bring him in the hse...not my decision...) but he tolerated it, stood mostly still and never growled or showed any aggresion...he was unsure of Skylar, being rather more energetic than me, but again never any aggression or hint of, he didn't cuddle up to him but accepted all snuggles graciously. Our in public with many stange sights, smells etc....beautiful behavior. Slack lead, never a bit of stiff behavior with any human or animal (several Petsmart staff nearly adopted him). Only once tries to mark something but it was right at the front of store so I suspect he wasn't the first, but after one gentle correction he immediately settled and waited till outside. I walked him through the hse a few get out to the car and such....never made an attempt to wee or chew. Took him the vet today to get an age and quick health check. I put him in the back of my car and he climbed over two seats to get into my lap while I drove. He's obviously used to sitting in the driver's seat. I have been so impressed with this little pup.
