Connie Smallwood, to add on to your suggestions, I would also place an article of your clothing that has your scent, outside. DO NOT place the litterbox outside, this will attract predators.

He is nearby and likely just hiding. Search by foot when it’s quiet. If he normally responds to your or another family member’s voice, or the shake of a treat container, use those. Post flyers. Ask your neighbors to check their garages and decks and crawl spaces. Put out food for him. It’s not worth setting a trap until you have an idea of his general vicinity.

Connie Smallwood only indoor. He wandered into our garage 3 years ago. Tried to find his people and ended up keeping him. He isn't allowed outside.
